Has anyone had any experience with the reproduction Colt 1860 revolver shoulder stocks sold by Dixie Gun Works or Blockade Runner? I have a Colt 2nd Generation 1860 revolver that is configured to take a detachable shoulder stock, and I’d like to fit one to it. Believe me, I’m not expecting any improvement in accuracy or utility, and in fact never considered them all that practical. I just want to try the device, and have it as an accessory for the revolver.

WUH... WUHH!!! BLACKPOWDER ALERT BLACK POWDER ALERT!!! WRONG SECTION WILL ROBINSON WRONG SECTION!!!

LOL :D, I couldn't resist! I have heard good things about the Dixie gun works shoulder stock for the 1860, supposedly they're well made. I'm not exactly sure who in fact makes them. I also believe that the original 1860's that were meant to use a shoulder stock had a dovetailed rear blade sight, and the notch on the hammer wasn't used as the rear sight. Don't quote me though!

The one I fired required my face to be much too close to the nipples. Lots of flash and fire there. Also had to be very careful of what you're doing with your off hand if you don't want to suffer some serious burns. I fired one cylinderful and decided it wasn't for me.

shoulder stock

shoulder stock does improve my accuracy, just make sure offhand grips behind the cylinder.

for the money (Dixie $295 ) you might consider a used Colts or Uberti stock which recently sold on ebay for $350 and $174 respectively, one brand new !

More historically accurate with thinner tongs and patina on brass. I have a few and they fit Colt perfectly on arrival. They are also easy to refinish the wood if need be

It is a fine accessory especially when displayed in a presentation case

From personal experiemce, I can tell you that Uberti and Pietta 1860 shoulder stocks are not interchangeable. You have to match the brand of shoulder stock to the brand of revolver.

The biggest problem with regard to increased accuracy is still the poor sights and short sight radius. Still, this always gets looks and is more fun than is allowed in some countries.

Just for kicks I've thought about figuring out how to stick a laser on this combo. Then again, I do weird stuff like that just for the heck of it.

these are a few examples... Agree that Pietta and Uberti stocks are different. The center stock, a Pietta on an Uberti, it a one size fits all, so the threaded clamp extends quite a bit upward on a Navy. It is also shorter than the Uberti.

The top is an Uberti, made for the Army, the Uberti Navy stock has a shorter brass bottom and shorter screw,

The stock on the Remington uses an extended hammer screw to mount, and is slippery at the butt, as the Remington has no notch for it as the Colt does.

These are all available from DGW, including the replacement hammer screw for the Remington.
