I think 9mm gets a bad rap because the military insists on using ball ammo which is the least effective form. If you use a good load of JHPs then it is plenty effective.
This is a Dan Wesson .357 with an 8-inch barrel. It is one of the models manufactured in Monson, Mass. I inherited this revolver so I don't know a whole lot about it. I believe it is a Model 15 but I can't say for sure.
The finish is in very good condition. It does, however, seem to have...
I suppose it's entirely possible somebody could make a side-mounted light that used a standard AK side mount intended for optics. I don't know if anyone has though.
Saigas are quality Russian guns, coming out of the Izmash factory, same as where Russian military AKs come from.
Here is a pic of mine which was converted to AK103 configuration.
Straight outta the box they are just sporter rifles though with sporter furniture.
I wonder if aluminum cased ammo would be good enough. CCI makes pistol ammunition in aluminum cases but I haven't seen rifle ammo. It was a bit cheaper than the cheapest WWB last time I looked.
Was that a pile of rocks he was shooting at? If so, he's lucky none of those rounds came back and hit him, especially since he wasn't even wearing eye protection.
I tend to agree that he probably put some kind of flammable substance on the barrel beforehand.
Just a year or two ago a lot of people were selling off 5.45 rifles because the ammo was so expensive to get. Right now there is a big influx of it and it is cheap. No telling how long that will last, though.
The only advantages I could possibly see is that it might burn a little cleaner and maybe be a little more accurate. A quick search looks like about 33 cents a round. Probably not worth it for plinking in a Russian-type gun.
Another vote for Saiga. The WASR is the cheapest AK you can buy. They will go bang if the monkeys put it together right but there are much better examples of AKs out there. The SKS is a fine rifle but they tend to be heavier and less balanced (especially the Yugo 59/66). The nice thing about...
Congrats. Many (most) aftermarket SKS mags are not all that reliable so be prepared to have issues with it. Find yourself the non-detachable 10 rd mag that comes with those standard and you should be golden.
Most AKs will feed pretty much anything. Wolf happens to be cheapest so that's what mine gets. :D
I have been buying the Wolf Military Classic FMJ lately since I found some at a good price.
Non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner in an aerosol can is very effective at getting it out of nooks and crannies. It will evaporate off and leave the metal dry (and you'd protect it with CLP or whatever once you were done cleaning of course). It's like $1-2 at Walmart last I checked. Mineral...
I think the 7.62x39 is the way to go with an AK. If you want smaller caliber then the 5.45x39 is good too (and more accurate) but the only sources are foreign and right now it is cheap but just last year people were selling off their 5.45s due to ammo shortages.
If I wanted .223 I'd buy an...
Both are good rifles and both will serve you well. You can argue till the cows come home about accuracy, ballistics, reliability, etc. If you had to use one in SHTF they will both kill people pretty dead and in casual shooting they are both quite fun.
I went with the AK for my first one but...
Correia summed it up nicely above, I agree.
In your case, SAR-1s are generally good rifles and considered better than your run-of-the-mill WASR. If you have a chance to inspect it, even better. The MAK90 is a good rifle but it comes in sporter configuration and as others mentioned you will...
