I have a '60s production Wingmaster with a 20" barrel, rifle sights, +2 tube, and a sling. I keep it in the safe loaded with 00 buck, with 1oz rifled slugs readily available. Simple, easy, and (I presume) effective for its intended role. I've probably put something like 1,000 rounds through it...
My USP .45 does bedside duty, but I purchased the M2 UTL years ago and have held onto it. If you can find one, I think it's a good choice for home defense.
I have a PX4 full-size in 9x19 and have no complaints about it. As far as recoil, it is slightly more than my 92FS or P229, but I think it has less muzzle flip. More straight back like a 1911.
Rimfire rifles are allowed one "evil" feature. So an AR-style .22 LR would be okay as long it has a fixed stock, non-threaded barrel sans flash suppressor, and no bayonet lug. Mag capacity is restricted to 10 rounds, of course.
My first gun was my Beretta 92FS that I bought in 1997. I love it, and still have it. However, I carried it concealed in all weather conditions for years before buying something smaller. I could have avoided all that suffering (especially in summer months) if I had gotten a compact pistol...
I've owned and carried my Beretta 92FS for almost 26 years, put something like 15,000 rounds through it, and replaced the recoil spring and magazine springs as a precaution. That being said, I also have several other pistols in rotation. Keep the Walther and try something new!
In order of my personal favorites, H&K USP, Beretta PX4, Sig P229, S&W 4006 TSW. Although the last one was too heavy for concealed carry for me, it was still a very nice pistol.
No kidding about the P40. Years ago, my father, who never shot a pistol in his life, wanted one for home defense. Despite all of my recommendations, he fell in love with the P40 and was dead-set on buying it. We went to the range, and that was a big OOF. Shortly thereafter we went back to...
The Beretta 92FS was my very first firearm, purchased as soon as I got my carry permit (arrived on my 21st birthday!). I've not shot it as much as some, only ~13,000 rounds, but only experienced two failures-to-eject with Blazer aluminum-cased ammo. All brass-cased ammo functioned just fine...
My carry lineup hasn't changed in years. Shield .40 gets the most holster time, followed by my Beretta PX4 full-size in 9mm. My woods gun has been a USP full-size in .45 for almost 20 years.
I've been tempted to change the Shield to 9mm, but when my buddy moved to the Czech Republic he gifted...
I've owned a few over the years, and like so many pistols I shouldn't have sold most of them. I don't regret selling the 5906, 4006 TSW, or 909. There wasn't anything wrong with them, just not enough love to hold onto them. The 4506 and 4566 might have been kept, but for both of these the...
