    257 Roberts

Back in the 1980s I managed to buy two Remington 700 special edition classic rifles. One was in .350 amg and the other was a .257 R. I still have the .350 but had to sell the .257R. It broke my heart as it was one exceptionally fine rifle. I could never get it to shoot my handloads with the...

    As-Issued SKS Value

Whoa! Sorry but I'll try again. Back in the late 90s I picked up two SKS rifles complete with bayonet and the care products for close to nothing. One was the shorter "paratrooper" model and the other a full size rifle. They looked like surplus rather than looking previously fired. I only...

    The Only One

I do love C&B revolvers but have only had two in my career. The pistol I have now I bought years ago. This is a .50 TVM flintlock, my only one. I'll never let it go. I can't be the only one, however, who loves flintlock pistols surely. It's a grand and accurate pistol that's spent time in...

In Honor of 3 timber rattlers this ol' 1860 sent to serpent heaven in 2021

The only rattlers I've eaten were a couple of diamondbacks in Georgia back in the 1960s (I didn't kill them). Never killed one on purpose but found out too late two I'd accidentally run over. I lived around canebrake rattlers for 62 years in Georgia. They have particularly toxic venom. We...

    Warning shot?

Warning shots are a danger to the public and should NEVER be fired. If you are justified and/or feel the need to pull and fire a gun at all then fire at the danger or don't pull the gun out. DUH! Never, ever try and "bluff" with a weapon.

    Magnum powder in target rounds?

I see no problem and have done it many times.

    Muzzleloading Overkill.

A shot deer with "too much damage" still supplies more venison than one you didn't shoot or missed. I hunt with nothing but patched round ball, mostly a .45, but have also used a .62 with patched ball. I know what happens when a deer is hit but do occasionally see results a little bit surprising.

    Light .38 Special Load

A "light" .38spl load is to me an HB or BB WC and 2.7 grains of Bullseye. I load these by the thousands and use them for everything "handgun" except sd.

Why I load five in my Blackhawks, even today....

All my BHs are the three screw OM. So they've always been, and still are, loaded with 5 rounds. I don't get challenged these days to "step outside" for a duel, so 5 is all I've ever needed.

Should I just forget about a flintlock now ?

Larry Pletcher has proven time and again on slo-mo video that a flint lock is not actually even close to a percussion lock in ignition speed. But the times for both are so quick it's extremely difficult to notice the difference between them. A flintlock does NOT ignite the charge in the barrel...

    Snub Nose Caliber choice

IMHO a snub nose means 2". For that I prefer the tried and true .38spl.

    Hot .38 Special

95% of my .38spl is loaded with wadcutters and Bullseye or Red Dot. Other than that I only load a few to "service" level, NO +P. If I want hotter I have a .357 waiting in the wings. But then, I consider the .38spl to be all I need for 95% of my shooting.

I want to get back into .30-30

I've still got the Marlin rifles I acquired in the '60s & '70s but none is a 30/30. I also got a Win M94 back then but sold it, for some reason or other I can't now recall. But as a big fan of the 30/30 I replaced it some 40 years ago with a Win M94 "Trapper" model with the 16" barrel. I love...

Shiny ring at the back edge of the shoulder?

Probably just a die mark. I think you'd know if you had incipient case head separation.

    Thought this was interesting

A cop couldn't lie his way out of that one!
