Like the OP, I don't really load enough at a time to justify the expense of a powered dispenser but hey, it's a gadget and I love gadgets so I bought a RCBS Chargemaster. I really enjoy using it even if it is a lot slower than my now abandoned, trusty, manual RCBS Uniflow and Lyman digital scale.
Hmm, never thought about the cost/time factor when it came to my reloading. Like others, I started reloading during the panic days when factory ammo was non-existent only to find out that reloading supplies were just about as hard to find. I devoted my early days to grabbing up as much brass...
I use my single stage has been semi-retired an used mainly for depriming duties. I do all my reloading (.380, 9mm, 45, and .223) on a simple RCBS turret. Yes, they are slow but I really enjoy the hands-on-every-step experience a single stage and turret press offer.
I had the same problem and was told to start using ArmorAll Wash-n-wax which would help. I was also told that the quicker the brass dries, the less spots you would have and that I should get a cheap food dehydrator which would greatly speed up the drying process. That seemed to do the trick and...
Like you said, it does make clean-up easy. The main reason was that that area was not very level and the cutting board made for a nice sturdy surface for the scale that was easy to level. After reading about accuracy of the scale if in close proximity to your press, I used soft rubber for...
I agree, LED is the way to go. 4' overhead LED's can be found at reasonable prices at Sam's Club. They are very bright and they don't mess with your electronics. I bought 4 of them there since I don't shop Costco because of their anti-gun position.
I've had my FART for quite some time now and use it a lot. So far I'm VERY, VERY happy with it and it has performed flawlessly and beyond my expectations. When and if it ever gives out, I won't hesitate getting another one. I find myself grabbing and cleaning all the filthy brass I can get...
The police range where I shoot is notorious for looooong grass most of the time and brass tarps, nets, etc. are a must. Recently I picked up some cheap butterfly nets ($2) at the local flea market (you know, the oriental guys with all the boxes on the ground of dollar items). They have an...
Here in northern Indiana humidity is a real issue in the summer months and since I also reload in my old basement (dry but musty) I have to run a dehumidifier 24/7 in my reloading room. Until needed, all of my unopened bottles of powder and primers are vacuum packed using my handy Foodsaver...
I'm in agreement with the majority and hand prime all my brass. Twice I have got the urge to reinstall the press priming tube on my RCBS turret press and give it another try and twice I have removed it. I just prefer the "feel" and the consistency that you get with hand priming.
Thanks for the input guys. My .223 powder inventory now sits at 3 lbs of IMR4895, 1 lb of H335, 1 lb. of Varget and 2 lbs of CFE223.
From what I've read about how good the H335 meters, maybe I'll look for more of that when I need to re-stock. Since I use a Chargemaster, good metering...
Hey Cobra. Nice RCBS turret press. I love mine and it's probably the only reason I haven't switched to a progressive yet. Good luck with that primer feeder though, probably the only weak spot on the entire press. I ended up yanking mine off and went back to using a hand primer which I found...
I had the same problem with my turrets for my RCBS press, threaded and a pain to change out powders/calibers then re-calibrate etc.. I eventually ended up purchasing a separate Uniflow for each one of my turrets dedicated to each caliber. Since then I have switched to a Chargemaster and never...
I have shot IMR 4895 with good results with .223 but have never tried CFE 223 yet. Yesterday I noticed the local dealer had a good supply of both and the CFE 223 was about $5 per lb. cheaper. What are your results with it and would I be better off going with it to save a few $? Thanks.
One of the vendors that frequents the cemetery is an avid hunter and always like to talk guns when he visits. I must have mentioned at some time in the past that I like to reload my own ammo because he showed up yesterday at work and proceeded to unload bag after bag of dirty brass from his...
I will say that I have to agree with this. Only time I ever experienced any color changes was when I overloaded the drum and the brass came out looking dull. I ran them again, in smaller batches this time, and they came out perfect.
