What a great looking rifle! All of the Barrett's I've handled seemed to be built very well, but I've never fired one (my range doesn't permit them b/c of the damage they do to to the berms).
I am especially interested in your shooting impressions as a lefty. Like many other folks I've met...
Near the end of the 20th century, citizens in several countries (Australia and England come to mind, there are likely others) were stripped of their right to own and use many firearms of their choosing. Indeed, the government ordered citizens to surrender many firearms, including handguns, to...
Thank you for posting this. The Internet was a much smaller "place" then than it is now, and I didn't / don't read that magazine, so I've never seen this.
The phrase "aid and comfort" comes to mind. You can just see the folks at HCI / VPC / Guns'R'Bad, Mmmkay! copying and pasting that...
If the rules of engagement for the Guard specify "Run Away!" (insert Monty Python impression here) as the appropriate response to an armed assault by foreign invaders... I am just speechless. :what: Isn't it called the "National Guard" at least partly because it, um, guards the nation...
The NRA's ILA has this list:

And communicating the reason for your buycott to the companies, if done in a reasonable and articulate manner, certainly can't hurt, and it has been effective in getting anti-CHL signs taken down in the past.
In a couple of hundred years, their leaders have gone from "Let them eat cake*" to "Let them eat lead."
*Yes, I know she probably really didn't say that.
Yup. If you are safe, you are OK to shoot with me whether you wear jeans, 5.11's, a business suit or camo. As long as you wear pants of SOME kind... :D
In the late '80's, Sam's here in north Louisiana sold bricks of .22 LR; I used to buy it there. I haven't seen it in more than a decade. They still occasionally sell blackpowder rifles here.
In the early '90's, Wal-Mart corp. changed several of the older, smaller Wal-Mart stores into...
I have an XM "MyFi" (the 1st generation portable receiver) and either it or the new 2nd generation portable receivers (Helix / Inno) can be set up to record a block of programming like a VCR or TiVo. You can then listen to the show anywhere, just like an MP3 player. I don't have an MP3 player...
Seriously, there are 3 barenaked rails just waiting to be covered with accessories. I suggest a daytime laser, an IR laser and another optic - an Aimpoint M3 - mounted 90 degrees off from the ACOG for up close work. :D
The picture atttached to this post is one of the most informative things concerning safes I've ever seen on this or any other forum. Thank you for posting this.
I have been looking at safes lately and this strongly reinforces my desire to get something big & strong (i.e., TL30x6) and then...
On this same topic, check out the various offerings from Backwoods Home magazine:

It's sort of a libertarian "Mother Earth News," written by people who have been there and are doing that.
OB gun content: Massad Ayoob writes a gun column for them.
I didn't see this link in this thread; this is a story written by a guy with an M35A2 (deuce & a half) who went into the Katrina mess. There are some good vehicle lessons in here:

I just finished the first chapter of "Earth Abides" by George Stewart. It's about a pandemic that kills off nearly everyone and is so far pretty entertaining.

Mountain House freeze dried foods are tasty and have a long shelf life, especially when packaged in cans:

However, they are expensive. It's the usual quandry: Good, cheap, long-lasting - pick any 2.
I have a couple of the Handgun Boxes from R & D Enterprises. They are tough and reliable. I managed to break the lock on one once from trying to close it with too much stuff inside (They are well made, it's just that I can break anything...). The simplex locks are apparently designed to fail...
That has occurred to me to, and I'm going to look into it a bit further. From what I've learned, load capacity is the biggest problem, followed closely by expense.
However, it has cinematic precedent:
