Sounds good. Since you stated that you really didn't need sights at self defense ranges, it seemed like a reasonable question to ask. A man who can makes good hits at, say, 25 yards without using sights is impressive indeed. 25 inches, less so. Without some clarification, the rest of us would...
Nope. When I have discussions, I find that's it's beneficial to know how my fellow conversationalists define the words and phrases that they're using. Besides, can one actually "fight" online? Guess we'd have to define that too! ;)
That's a good point about the IWB holster and cover garment and you're right that that does help significantly. My problem is, I'm not the type of person who switches pistols a lot depending on what I'm doing. I'm carrying the same Glock 19 sized gun 90+% of the time. The way that that gets...
Just to clarify once again, I'm not talking about the durability of the optic. I'm talking about the glass being dirty enough to block both the dot and the irons. Logging, tree work, post frame construction, framing, four wheeling, dirt biking, back country elk, deer and bear hunting are all...
At the upper right corner of your screen, there is a magnifying glass icon and the word "search". Click that and type in phrases such as "clean gun", "clean firearm", clean pistol" etc. There are thousands of threads and replies on this subject. FWIW, this has been a subject of debate on...
My question was addressed to @MikeInOr, who seemed to be implying that there are set "self defense distances" (presumably short ones). I was just curious how he defined that term and at what distance he would cease (or not begin) to defend himself and/or others.
They've certainly come a long way and they're a great option for a lot of folks. Just doesn't work as well for some of us who work (or play) in dirty environments. That's not because the optic might "crap out" but because even if the dot is still there and holding zero, it doesn't help if you...
I work in a dusty, dirty environment every day. The sights on my pistol get dusty and dirty too, but the outline is still visible, even when the tritium or fiber optic is not. If I had a red dot on there, there's no reason to presume that it would have less dust on it than the sights do. There's...
A red dot on a pistol does not work for me because much of the time the "screen" of the optic, and thereby the backup irons, would be obscured by dirt and sawdust.
For most people, it's a choice. Working towards a "flat stomach" is much more important and likely to protect your health than carrying a gun, regardless of which carry method you choose.
I agree. The big difference though, is that most handgun owners barely get past the reading the billboard stage of weapon carry research and training before forming an opinion. Without a good training background, most just fall into the "don't know what they don't know" category, which is why...
