I'm really enjoying the .32 cartridge. Right now I've got a few Colt model 1903s that put those 32s on target with surprising accuracy. And with the new ammo out there; the good HPs make the old Colt a nice carry piece.
7 1/2" 32 wcf
Next up we have the 7 1/2" 32 WCF. This one appears to be all correct. Someone did say that the hammer checker pattern looks off, but I'm not certain. At first glance, the finish looks almost too good, but up close the detail and sharpness of the stamps and markings really...
Next up is the 4 3/4" 45 Colt. At first glance it appeared to be original; however, it also looks to have a replacement barrel. The "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 45" script supposedly didn't start until 1929. The serial number puts this one at 1924-25. Hard to tell that anything else is off...
First, I'll start with the 45 that we know has been reworked at some point. This one has the earliest serial number of the bunch. The barrel is an early 2nd gen; and the cylinder looks that way as well. My guess is that it was reworked sometime in the early 50s during the TV western explosion.
Good morning everyone. Thanks for all the comments so far. I'd have to say that the 32-20 is also my favorite.
I've found a few discrepancies amongst the herd, as well as had a few pointed out by some very good collectors and trustworthy gentlemen. I knew about a couple, but with so...
I came across these after doing some trading and leatherwork for an old gentleman that I see at local gun shows a lot. He told me that the next time I came by his house, he'd open the "good" safe for me. I didn't know exactly what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised to say the least...
Thanks guys! The coin shop was closed. They will be added soon. :)
Interesting suggestion on a full coverage back. Never considered it. This one is so comfortable at the 4-4:30 position. Didn't notice the pistol ever touching my skin. With the form molding, that safety isn't...
Nice job on the clean up. Looks quite a bit better.
Like Walt, I usually do a few coats before using water. Also try to do several coats before blending with steel wool. The one issue I run into with blending is it removing way more of the new color than you think it should. Just...
Very well said, Walt. Again, you won't get an argument from me on any of your points.
The style and cool factor IS totally subjective. Just check out the "cool factor" thread. Nearly everyone will have a different opinion on the matter.
I have to admit that my reliability comment...
Yes indeed these are certainly built by some caring and skillful hands. Technology may have advanced a lot, but style and cool factor matched with reliability hasn't. ;)
That said; if I already owned a 9x19, I'd more than likely opt to carry that first.
When my 3rd one arrives, it...
Have to agree that there is an abundance of "better" compact SD guns on the market. I'll actually have my compact .45 for my main SD carry when the situation dictates; but this will fill most of my needs when I'm around my area.
Some would never carry this with a chambered round; siting...
Thx guys.
The holster is a dhcustomwork. :) I picked up the dime at a small coin shop a few blocks from my place. I'm putting together an IWB for it, too. Too accurate, reliable, and darned cool not to put in the carry rotation.
Thanks for the info, Walt. Never thought of alternating products for each coat. Sounds like something I may try next time.
Here's a couple more pics and the holster I threw together for it.
Thanks guys. The initials have been removed instead of covered up. While it's not a professional refinish, it's certainly a lot better to look at IMO without the initials glaring at me. I could have left it as is and shot the pee out of it until sending it to Nutmeg .... if I weren't so...
Just picked up this little 1903 from a fellow member here. I was looking for a good functioning shooter that I could send off for special treatment without really adversely affecting any collector value. This was a great choice as it was in really good condition under the hood, but...
While I've been on the hunt for a nice Model 1908 .380 for a while now, the right one just hasn't come around yet. In the mean time; however, I managed to pick up a couple 1903 .32s. One from a member here and one from GB.
My GB purchase arrived home today. This .32 is in pretty nice...
Well, maybe I'm just getting screwed then. I just can't fathom getting $3k+ cash for this SAA selling on my own; and IMO it would take the right auction house and plenty of marketing to bring in that much or more at auction. Then take off 20-30% commission and I'm right back where I started...
