I'm sure you already know this, but tension should be released from the mainsping before removing the sideplate. With the sideplate removed, the frame pins are only supported on one side.

Sounds like you bent what ever was causing the cylinder not to swing out easily. My guess woud be the end of the center pin, that sticks out from the ejector ratchet. Or possibly deformed the hole in the frame it fits into.

I bought 3, 8 rounders for a 1911, several years ago. The springs seem weak(loads really easy), but they have worked quite well for many thousands of rounds. Lips are still correct, and the blue steel body is has never deformed or tarnished.

I really like Federal Auto Match. Works great and is quite accurate.
I have the local indoor range order it for me a couple cases at a time. He gets it from any one of several ammo suppiers.
IIRC... last time I bought, it was around $11 per box.

I've had a Ciener kit mounted on a dedicated alloy frame for several years(15+).
I easily got my $200 purchase price worth of fun out of it the first year. It's quite accurate and reliable, as long as you clean it every 200 rounds or so.
