Thanks, Old Fuff....you pretty much covered everything!
Yes, Standing Wolf, it was pretty much theft, but he said it was more about making sure someone had it who would take care of it and appreciate it than about getting money out of it. I'll go for that! :p
Just ran the serial number. It was made in 1954.
I bought this off a guy I work with whose dad used to be a police detective. This was his police gun. It's in excellent shape and he left me have it for $50. Now is that one hell of a deal or what?! :D
Hey, all,
I just bought a Colt Cobra snubbie in .38 special. It's an older one with the exposed ejector rod. Haven't run the serial number yet to see the year it was made, but regardless of what people say is ok, I don't want to run +P's through it.
I just have a couple of questions...
Well, the reason I brought this up in the first place is simply because this guy honestly didn't know anything about guns - period. He was ready to buy without having even fired a gun, and everyone here recommends taking a safety course, going to the range, renting different guns, doing some...
So I was in a local gun shop today and had a comical/annoying experience. First thing I heard was a guy behind the counter explaining to a customer that H&K named its pistol line "USP" because it was designed for the "U.S." market. I really badly wanted to walk up to him and explain the term...
I think your fears are irrational. The kB thing has been blown way out of proportion on the Internet. I love both for their own reasons, but I'd choose the Glock for myself based on price, ease of use, ease and low cost of repair, reliability record and less concern about banging it up/rusting...
H&K Mark 23. I saw a SWAT team guy shooting one next to me at the range once. If anything is "tactical", that's it. Also, that's what they've got on Tom Clancy video games :D
I chose the Glock because of the three, it's the only one I wouldn't worry about too much as far as banging it up, keeping it oiled and worrying about it going bang when you need it to. If it's for IDPA, you'll find Glock armorer's all over and if it's for home defense, it won't be out of...
I bought an S&W 19-5 last month in really good shape for $299 and it's a great shooter. Handles .38, .38 +P really well and .357 is perfectly manageable. It's well balanced and about the perfect weight for me. I recommend it highly!
Okay, I'll give my own two cents...
I agree that a gun show is not the place for a newbie to buy a first gun, much less to learn. You can get a great idea about what some prices are, what different models look like, how they feel, etc. But with the questions you're asking and your lack of...
Shot a P22 last year and it was a jam-o-matic. Tried a variety of ammo, but nothing seemed to work right. I heard it was due to a magazine problem that has since been fixed, but I haven't really gotten around to trying it out again. Rugers, Buckmarks and Neos are all typical suggestions that...
I don't have anything new to add here. Just be sure you know how to be safe and how to use your firearms and accessories before you try it. That's for your safety and the safety of those around you. A safety class is invaluable and so is a lot of product knowledge. I'd say your best bet is...
I'll give it a go
Glock - cop guns, ghetto homeys shoot sideways, fantastic plastic, weird trigger, Bruce Willis knows about the only porcelain one, great customer service, cheap replacement parts, easy for anyone to work on, bury it in the sand, freeze it, drop it out of a helicopter and it...
I picked up an 870 Express Magnum, 28" barrel with modified choke for $200 at a gun show. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but I imagine some orange painted birds are in trouble this weekend :D The thing is pretty much brand spankin' new. The guy I bought it from said he only fired it...
Hey, folks. So, I'm in the market for an inexpensive .22 bolt-action. Anyone have any suggestions? I would define inexpensive as under $200. Hey, I'd love a Sako, Remington, Winchester or Browning, but I don't need to blow that much cash to plink at pop cans, ya know? I'm considering the...
Thanks for the replies, everybody. I agree, I should probably try as many as I can before I go tossing my money around. I'll give the Sigs and HK's a whirl, but I guess I thought they were too expensive for me and I kinda left them in the "when I'm older, richer and more experienced category"...
Hey, everybody. Glad to be back from TFL. I somehow didn't manage to find my way over here until about a week ago. Go figure. Anyway, I'm trying to make a decision and I want some good input. Thought this would be a good place to start. I turned 21 a few months ago. I have been...
