for pistol shooting I made an eye piece out of a pair of clip on plastic sun glasses. they must be plastic so you can drill a hole thru them....
my old eyes cannot see open sights very for a few years now but I can see peep sights fairly well yet.
seems to happen to most old shooters.
benchrest shooters will tell you if it is stringing vertical add more powder.

a nice old Savage Model 1899 in 250-3000 cal.
I haven.t shot a lot of deer but every one was with my #3 Ruger in 45-70. they were all one shot kills.
it,s probably 2 1/2"chamber unless someone has reamed it out to 2 3/4"chamber.

that,s a spare ratchet. if you keep the one being used well oiled you should never need the spare one.
