Why Do You Carry A Gun?

All kidding aside. I was a Police Officer for 36 years. I’ve carried a gun the majority of my life. I did all the fun high speed low drag stuff I wanted to do since I was 14. If an active shooter starts killing people. An innocent person is about to be murdered….If I come across an...

    Ankle Holster

The Renegade was awesome. Carried one for many years with a 642. Inside left leg. Seated in a squad car, if somebody walked up on me, I could have the gun out and behind the door and, they’d never know it...

What's your preferred every day carry?

I’ve run through everything. From a full size 1911 to a Seecamp .32. Is carried a 1911 as a duty gun for almost 20 years. And, for awhile, carried it off duty also. I also discovered that I wasn’t really getting into that many shootouts off duty. And, keeping a full size 1911 concealed gets...

    Curio & Relic Carry Piece

I bought a beautiful Nazi Police PPK. Had it with me and decided to run out to the department Range to pop off a few rounds. It worked perfectly. I was working plain clothes at the time and took off my duty gun while I was at the range. So, I loaded it, stuck it in my waistband and, headed...

Stopped Cleaning your Gun! I did - You Too?

I generally clean my guns after a range trip. Not a detailed strip. Just barrel. Breechface, rails. Fresh oil. Back in holster. A dear friend of mine, back in the IPSC days, would shoot his 1911 until it was so fouled, you could watch the slide cycle. When it was right at the point of...

Firing a DA revolver in SA mode

I’m blessed. My first gun was a Colt Diamondback .22. I’ve shot thousands of Wildcats through that gun. Almost all DA. Then a 6” Model 27. Thousands of 148 Wadcutters with 2.7 gr of bullseye. (I had Star reloader). Almost all DA. Occasionally for 100 yard plus shots, just for fun, I’d cock...

    Burro Defense Gun

Things non desert people don’t know about the desert: The desert will kill you. In 24 hours, you can die of heat stroke, dehydration, freeze to death, drown, get bit by something or, fall to your death. If I’m out and about, I carry a satellite rescue beacon. You can be 10 miles out of town...

"Oh my Gawd....do you have a gun in every room?"

I have a gun on me. Always. It started when my kids were little and I was a working Police Officer. I didn’t have to think about “where I left my gun”. It was on me. I still usually have a gun on me. But, I live alone. There’s an old 5” S&W M&P upstairs. And, a Ruger Speed Six, on a hook, on...

    What grips are these?

I’m a product of the Hawaii education system. I’ll point out the mass transit system in Hawaii is named so the lowest common denominator can figure it out. At least I didn’t call it “DAT round ting up near the top dat makes it no wiggle so much…” Thanks for the recognition!!!

    What grips are these?

I have several older Colts. Including an Official Police with (Probably) Jay Scott grips. Wanted some vintage wood. Found some on eBay. Listed as OP grips. Not even close. they are dead square across the top. I don’t recall any Colt being cut like that. Any ideas? Front and back...

Forged, Cast & MIM. What's better and why

Remember when S&W took a jab at Rugers casting?

Forged, Cast & MIM. What's better and why

I had the slide stop break on my older Kahr K9 Pretty sure it was just cast. Really grainy. The seams were pronounced. The replacement looks like MIM. With the number cast into it. It’s just a generally smoother finish. So, apparently Kahr decided MIM was better for that part than...

Smith and Wesson 4506--Thoughts and Experiences?

A buddy carried a 645 as a duty gun. I carried a 1911. His gun made the 1911 seem positively petite. I had a short affair with a Sig P220. Probably a better carry gun. Never had an issue with the gun. His lower back? Not so sure. I love the looks. The lines. And, it would make a dandy...

duty size gun carry for ccw

I never really had problems with my back after 35 years. Between gun belt, body armor etc, I carried around 32 pounds. But. It was fairly evenly distributed. Now, though, one gun of any substantial weight on my right hip, gives me problems.

They come by and do my landscaping. About as docile as one could imagine. I also give them a wide berth.

duty size gun carry for ccw

I’ve also discovered, after wearing a gun belt for most of my life, my body doesn’t like the weight anymore. It’s like when I retired, my body said “I thought we were done with this crap?” If I spend a day carrying a full size gun on my right hip, I get hip and lower back pain. I don’t know...

duty size gun carry for ccw

I carried a 1911 on and off duty for years. Off duty, I carried in a Milt Sparks Roadrunner. And, two extra mags. Always wore a cover garment. In the summer, a camo BDU top with the sleeves torn off. A few things happened. One, I wasn’t getting in many shootouts off duty. None actually...

    Carry Safety

I have seen carry guns, particularly revolvers, in deplorable condition. But, none requiring a special tool to fix. Unless, there is mechanical damage. That sounds more like he dropped it, flat on its side and sheared the center pin. And, didn’t mention that part. Unless the lint was mixed...
