What is going on with guns

One cannot rely on forums and internet lawyers. Go to the source. Every state has internet access to its statutes. In Colorado, they're called Colorado Revised Statutes or CRS. In addition, each legislative session publishes its activities each year during the session. With a little...

    Powder preservation

So, maybe I'm interpreting wrong.... One pic shows "IMR4831", and others say "WWII"... Does that mean one is commercial IMR 4831, and the others are powder left from old powders left or scavanged from old military stores? I guess I'll go pull some old rounds and check some. OTOH, I did...

    Let’s talk vintage reloading presses

Aye HPS1: Looks like a fine old gun. Now you can load up a few appropriate shells, find some old wool knickers and an Elmer hat and do some period pheasant hunting. Bet it'd be fun. I used to shoot Colo pheasants with an old Stevens single barrel 410. Kudos on your new discovery! -West out

how did it start for you?

Believe it or not, through the years, we had two dogs, one a mutt collie, and a Weimaraner both of whom would not eat the skinned jacks we shot, so we gave up shooting jacks. The mutt collie could catch jacks occasionally, and the weimaraner was dumber than dirt. He spent many a night chained to...

how did it start for you?

Pretty similar to Bartojc: Raised on wheat/cattle place in eastern Colo. There was always a 410 or Wards 22 sitting in a corner. Only issue was mother yelling "is that thing loaded?" Shot rabbits when I was big enough to shoulder the 22. Learned my basic animal anatomy there. We had the...

    Little help with .308 sizing.

hehe, that is kinda messy... Did it once with new 223 AI, albeit not intentionally. It took me hours to find a brass rod to clear it, not to mention cleaning all the powder out of the action. Last few years, I cannot find brass rod at any of the big box stores around Denver. McMaster has it at...

    Let's talk 40gr & lighter loads in 223

Not exactly what you're shooting, but I've been doing 27.3 grains of AA2230 under Calhoon 42 gn bullets for a Win heavy varmint std 223 /10 twist. Same load in 223 Ackley/14 twist with Hornady 40 VMaxes. BUT, remember to work up and YMMV. -West out

    Little help with .308 sizing.

I started out FL sizing cases, but soon decided neck sizing made sense to me. I separate brass by headstamp into discrete lots ID'd by chronological numbering and times fired. I don't have multiple rifles of the same cartridge but do delegate brass lots to specific guns. I've had to set back...

    Teaching my Son to Reload

It's come to pass that any auto repair has become beyond my skill level. I used to be the world's ace starter replacer, at least on Chevrolet station wagons. Now anything under the hood is mysterious at best and otherwise impossible. Ya can't beat a '61 Impala for simplicity. It would take...

I have no idea where people even shoot anymore.

Hehe, I did that once when I was about 14. Had the window and screen open. I shot from inside the room with a '94 30-30. Never did that again. That probably started my hearing degradation. Mother shrieked from downstairs, and my dad came boiling upstairs wondering what I was doing. Got the...

I disagree! If she was convicted of a felony she lost her gun rights, and also lost whatever the civil suit cost her. Now I'd like to see the actual description and transcript of this case. West out

    Things to Not Do

No kidding!! I've spent the last month and a half in hospitals and nursing home. I'm amazed at the medical professionals (both doctors and nurses) wearing myriad tattoos, various ear adornments, nose rings, etc. Not to mention the 'relations counselor' at my granddaughter's school. She was a...

    Getting back to shooting

As for targets, I keep most white cardboard that comes in the house. Have a couple feet stacked in the basement..,. Especially nice are big pieces, large envelopes, big donut boxes are the nicest. Most frozen food comes boxed in white lined boxes. I can get 6 targets on some of the larger...

New conundrum- to fix or not to fix...

OK, once again all: I got the 605 torn down per the instructions on the Taurus board. . Not sure how I'll get the side plate back in, it seems kinda tight. I think I have the upper corner key in its slot OK. But, I'll worry that issue when I'm ready to go back together. As far as canned air...

    Let’s talk vintage reloading presses

Well, I don't know whether it qualifies as 'vintage', but here's my Herter's Super Model U3 I'm still using. It dates from 1973. I see no difference in ammo loaded on it, or one of the more recent RockChuckers I've acquired. Still has the old brown crinkle finish. I have a pretty decent...

US Navy Deletes Photo Of Ship Commander Shooting Rifle With Backwards Scope

During our gun club's annual hunter sight-in, we get a good cross section of the public. I usually work 4-5 days of the two month sojourn. I see at least one and sometimes more each year with the scope mounted 90 degrees off. A couple have even supposedly been mounted at local gun stores...
