Correct ball size, in which a minor ring is shaved when seated is the way to stop chain fires. As stated above, lube over ball creates an unnecessary mess.

So, you didn’t get the silicone impregnated ones…. Ballistol as proposed (a light spray) or Barricade on the metal, not a bad idea.

It’s the abrasive element in toothpaste, for example. The lizard litter will do the clean and polish on its own; the diatomaceous earth just speeds up the process.

Add a few scoops of diatomaceous earth (available in hardware stores and at Amazon) to lizard litter for A+ results.
