How to initially choose a powder when starting out?

How do people go about picking out a powder for reloading? I reloaded 45 LC a long time ago, and I picked Trail Boss because I wasn’t hunting and I liked the idea of a powder so fluffy that I couldn’t double charge. Thinking/planning to reload 9mm, and there seems to be dozens of powders...

A rave about the Mantis Laser Academy

I am not sure how well that would work for me, but I am glad it works for you. The cool part of the Laser Academy for me is the integration with the app on my phone. The app uses the phone’s camera to capture the location oh the laser do when the firing pin hits the back of the laser cartridge...

    help picking a press

I thought a lot about this a decade ago when I loaded 45 LC on a Lyman turret press a friend loaned me. I am about to get back into reloading, and I will definitely go with a progressive - mostly because I think that I would have to be significantly more boneheaded to create a squib load or a...

A rave about the Mantis Laser Academy

It is a lot of fun. I have the Mantis X3 as well, and I found dry fire with that pretty tedious.

An unusual reloading setup? Single stage for sizing/decapping, RCBS Auto Prime, Dillon 5 stage to finish

That's fair - the Mark 7 Apex-10 is as far out of my league as the Dillon RL 1100. I only mentioned the RL 1000 because so many people had mentioned the XL 750 - and sort of glossed over the fact that they were comparing a 5 station press with a 10 station press - the X-10. But you are correct...

An unusual reloading setup? Single stage for sizing/decapping, RCBS Auto Prime, Dillon 5 stage to finish

A number of people have mentioned Dillon XL 750 and Hornady LnL AP - and both fo them are great if you want a 5 station press. From what I can tell, the Dillons XL 750, Hornady LnL AP, and the RCBS Pro Chucker 5 are are roughly equivalent quality. I really want separate bullet seat and crimp...

An unusual reloading setup? Single stage for sizing/decapping, RCBS Auto Prime, Dillon 5 stage to finish

A decade or so ago, I reloaded 45 LC on a Lyman Turret press. I stopped reloading and shot infrequently until I retired in 2019. Started shooting more after that, but my retirement gift to myself was an FN FiveSeven. I didn't really have a hankering to reload 5.7x28. I got tired of buying...

An unusual reloading setup? Single stage for sizing/decapping, RCBS Auto Prime, Dillon 5 stage to finish

Thanks to all for their comments. Someone on Reddit’s reloading subreddit reminded me of the Frankford Arsenal X-10, which seems like it checks all of my boxes. I feel like an idiot for not thinking of it earlier. I watched the progressive press shootout on the YouTube Ultimate Reloader channel...

An unusual reloading setup? Single stage for sizing/decapping, RCBS Auto Prime, Dillon 5 stage to finish

I am trying to figure out how to assess the quality of the Lee Six Pack/6000. When I was growing up, Lee had a reputation mostly for affordability. My dad reloaded, and money was very tight, but he still saved for an RCBS Rock Chucker - or whatever RCBS was calling their single stage press in...

An unusual reloading setup? Single stage for sizing/decapping, RCBS Auto Prime, Dillon 5 stage to finish

The problem I had with a dry tumbler was that if I tumbled before decapping, the primer pocket never got cleaned out. If I tumbled after decapping, little bits of media ended up in the primer pocket. Does this same issue happen with wet tumbling?

Yes, I had thought of it, but did not mention it on my list.

An unusual reloading setup? Single stage for sizing/decapping, RCBS Auto Prime, Dillon 5 stage to finish

I proposed the following in a thread with GW Starr, but I thought I would bring it up to a wider audience for comment. I am thinking about re-loading and I think I want separate seating and crimping stations, potential for a bullet feed station, and a powder check station of some kind. Since...

A rave about the Mantis Laser Academy

The Laser Academy has some very downsized targets for this purpose.

Have people successfully modified Hornady or Dillon case collators to fit the RCBS case feed tube?

Thanks. I can see making it work with 6 stations. I do wonder how Lee is able to sell a press that much cheaper. It seems like what I think of as the big 3 - Hornady, RCBS, and Dillion - have pretty similar prices on 5 station presses. I wonder how Lee can come at way less than that? Also...

Have people successfully modified Hornady or Dillon case collators to fit the RCBS case feed tube?

Will i have issues if I am loading only 9mm? I don’t really have easy access to ranges where I can shoot a rifle - I almto always end up shooting at 25 yard indoor range. I ended up giving both of my rifles to a nephew who IIves out in the country. So I have been shooting nothing but pistols...

Is USCCA getting a fair shake on YouTube?

My question is whether or not they - or any other insurance reseller - have any choice in the matter. If their insurance company is prevented by law from insuring criminal acts, it seems hard to argue that they should do. For example, I have heard before that you cannot buy insurance for...

A rave about the Mantis Laser Academy

I just got back from the range and wow! I got the Laser Academy last week, and I have probably dry fired 400 shot overall. The change in my accuracy was pretty dramatic - in fact, I moved my target back from 7 yards to 10 yards, because keeping the all in an 8" circle at 7 yards was no longer...

Is USCCA getting a fair shake on YouTube?

Thinking about beginning to carry - mostly to synagogue. I am thinking about concealed carry insurance, and I see a number of videos on YouTube complain going about USCCA insurance covering being dropped/denied on a criminal conviction - even when the “conviction” is a plea bargain down to a...
