I just acquired a used 686 special with a crumbling butt pad. I went to do a swap with a beretta white wing I had laying around and the pads didn't match up. The stock is normal lop and doesn't seem to be altered. Is there a special pad I need to order?
9:40 pm 87 degrees hill country tx. been sitting for two hours. Very bright moon and I can see 200 yards with scope. Wind is perfect fingers crossed for some big hogs or axis deer. So far only thing I killed was a scorpion who crawled in my blind.
I just added a commercial ACS on a commercial six position tube and there is a slight amount of rattle I want to eliminate. I was thinking acra glass . Any suggestions?
So I ordered parts for a 7.62x39 upper and it dawned on me that Russian surplus might not be compatible with my 3 lb timney trigger. Anyone have experience with shooting Russian surplus with lightened trigger springs?
The trigger stays so this upper could end up getting expensive.
It's a freakishly cool 80 degrees in Hondo Texas and we just got 10 inches of rain last night into this afternoon. Trying to take out a hog or two tonight and I have a hour til sunset. I just watched a turkey cross the road two weeks out of season. No hogs yet but it is. Very early. My BAR is...
I let go my first Ruger GP100 6" about 13 years ago to the day. Found this one at the gun show last weekend with no warning label stamped into barrel and classic grips. Took her to the range today for the first time and it shoots as good as my first one. Off hand shooting at 30 yards indoors...
I used to be in the flash hider camp. I still think they look cool but for all of my practical purposes they are a hindrance. I hunt at night and the flash hider will spare the hogs outside my crosshairs a bright flash at the expense of blinding me. I built my gun and needed something to...
Perfect night for a hog hunt. 70 degrees with a 5mph breeze in my face. I have a feeder with a kill light on it 50 yards in front of my blind. I ran 200 yards of corn up the sendero to my right. I having a browning BAR with ATn spartan night vision for the road and my Frankenstein ar-10 with...

The holy grail of a hunting AR-15 should be near .308 performance out of a compact AR-15 weight rifle. I have tried .300BLK, 6.8SPC and 7.62 X 39 AR-15s and the .300 Remington AR trumps them all by a significant margin for energy and flat shooting. It certainly seems that Remington gave up on...
The build is almost done, I have been tinkering with this Remington R25 for a few months and I have finally got it to where I want it to shoot. My VX-R firedot 4-12 is in transit and will be the cherry on top. The gun started life as a Remington R25 .308 and I yanked the trigger first week I...
Finally got some blood on my Browning BAR I bought from THR member a year ago. Its a .30-06 longtrac, had a Vortex 4-12 on it but decided to set it up for hogs with my ATN Spartan with a big stream light IR illuminator on top. About 10 hogs showed up but two were feeding at 35 yards and I...
I know of nitriding and other bore hardening methods but wonder if just the bore gets hardened. I have a stainless bull barrel and it has a few "polished" spots from rub on the exterior. I wonder if the bore is just as susceptible to minor nicks and dings. If this is the case I am never...
