this little phenomenom is know as the Lower Explosive Limit and Upper Explosive Limit. A compound, such as propane or gasoline vapors, need to have a concentration above the Lower Explosive Limit and below the Upper Explosive Limit. If the concentration is outside of those limits, then no...
ANY dust that is at a certain concentration will explode. Look at all of the grain elevators that have exploded over the history of time due to the dust.
Hmmm...that's odd that the link doesn't work. Just goto http://www.biglube.com and choose bullet molds then pick: PRS 45-250 RNFP That show you the bullet. If you want a lighter bullet, there some 210 grain, and then there's the 150 grain bullet.

Here's a chart that I posted on a previous thread about making bp. It gives the screen sizes from most of the Goex powders.
If someone wants to donate ;) a pound of Goex Cowboy and Cartridge, I can screen it and report the results.
During one of our Mounted Cowboy Action Shooting practices, one of the participants actually shot her horse with the black powder blanks. With his winter coat, I don't think that he even felt it. But there was a nice black streak on his neck... Even though we shoot blanks, they can still do...
bp grades
I don't have an answer for the cartridge and cowboy grades...actually I'm looking for those myself. But this table specifies the differences in some of the grades.

Nope. When you're pressing BP it's damp, and thus making it fairly inert. Also, BP is not sensitive to concusion or being compressed. You can take BP and strike it with a hammer and it WILL NOT detonate. Before pressing it, it is very fine and at that stage, I would not want to be smoking...
There's several places that you can get the screens required. If you want to go the really expensive way, then you can purchase the ASTM testing seives. The cheapest I've found them new for uncertified seives is $39 each. You can try to get them used, but they still should go for about $20...
I'll second JCT recommendation on the tumbler from ebay seller "HOBFIR". I just picked one up. It is very well made. I'm just waiting for the barrel to arrive, so I can try this out.
What barrel length are you looking for? I've got a stainless ROA with adjustable sights with a 7 1/2" barrel that i might be presuaded to be part with (I've got a pair of the fixed sight SS ROA's that I love).

Also, remember that you don't want any air space between the bullet and the powder. You want to get about 1/16 - 1/8 inch of compression of the black powder. If you want to shoot reduced loads...cream of wheat works great as a filler.

Sign me up. don't know too much about the history. I got it about 10 years ago. It was my dads and it's very accurate. He used it for varmit hunting.
