Is anyone using Hornady's Premium Powder Funnel Kit

I checked the funnel caliber bushings on various cases that I had. Based on my rifle cases, the following all indexed on the case rim: 7mm-08; 243 Win; 308 Win; 6.5 Creedmoor; 270 Win; 7mm RM, 30-30 Win; 300 Wim Mag; 280 Rem; 300 Blackout Based on my rifle cases, the following indexed on the...

Is anyone using Hornady's Premium Powder Funnel Kit

Did you find yours indexing on the shoulder as well? I'm going to measure the case length protruding from the funnel and then the overall case length, the difference being what is inserted in the funnel neck. Maybe the gap, if there is one, is insignificant.

Is anyone using Hornady's Premium Powder Funnel Kit

Bought a Hornady Premium Funnel Kit because when I was using the RCBS plastic funnel loading 223 Rem with CFE 223 powder, I had more spillage than I would have liked. After 50 cases, there was enough powder in the bottom of the loading block to fill one of the loading block holes about 1/16". I...

    Benefit of Safety Training

Excellent point. Quick google - In Minnesota in 1986 the law required red (think lumberjack plaid) or blaze orange. In 1994, the law eliminated red and required blaze orange. I started hunting around 1982 and I know our hunting party all had blaze orange even at that time. Regarding lever...

What have you done in the reloading room today

Picked up the Hornady Premium Powder Funnel Kit. I spilled way too much CFE 223 on my last round of 5.56/223 loading with my plastic fantastic funnel to feel comfortable that it wasn’t affecting my velocities. And as expensive as powder is, I don’t want to waste more kernels than absolutely...

    Benefit of Safety Training

Yeah, the DNR had “data” going back to 1947 and it was clearly not consistent. I just used the data from the point in time hunter safety certification data was continuously available and went back a few years farther. Taken as a whole, there seems to be a strong correlation to fewer incidents...

    Benefit of Safety Training

I like charts that show interesting trends. Perusing the Minnesota DNR website and compiled some quick stats: Before 1973 - Average firearm hunting fatalities were 8.7 annually Since 1974 through 2022, after hunter safety courses were implemented, firearm hunting fatalities averaged 2.9...

"Upgrades" to a Savage Axis (not an Axis II)

What scope did you choose for yours?

"Upgrades" to a Savage Axis (not an Axis II)

No update. The wait is killing me. I wasn’t able to get to loading on Thursday so I’m behind schedule. Annealed, sized and trimmed brass last night waiting for the northern lights. Hopefully powder and bullets tonight. Mother’s Day tomorrow, so I’m not going to the range this weekend.

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

I bought a Vortex Viper Red Dot. They look to be on clearance; I don't have one, the price is right ($113) and it seemed like a good deal. I plan on getting a mounting plate for my 92X. Also got a new to me Athlon Ares BTR Gen 2 4.5-27x50.

 Plan for tomorrow is to load up a batch of ammo to get ready for the weekend.

"Upgrades" to a Savage Axis (not an Axis II)

The scope arrived yesterday in the mail. Playing around with it, it appears quite nice. The turrets are firm to turn but not so firm that I accidentally double click, so I would say “just about right”. Firm enough that I would find it hard to believe they could be accidentally bumped off. If you...

    Digital Trigger Gauge

I guess you could say I was working on the gun to improve the trigger pull, but pretty much a drop in trigger. Not really gun smithing in any technical sense to improve the trigger pull, but since the trigger is adjustable, I wanted to make sure it wasn't set too light (for my purposes). I...

Hodgdon Powder acquires RCBS from Vista Outdoor

I guess this explains it, I tried to log in yesterday and had issues. Notes on top of web page indicated I might need to create a new account. I created a new account and it looks like my VIP (mil, LE) pricing is not available. Anyone know the status of that? I tried calling, and got "an outside...

    Digital Trigger Gauge

Yep, depends on why we are measuring the pull weight. Average can be helpful. If the minimum required is 4.5 lbs, 4.5 lbs is probably not what you want to set the average to. Of course I then went off and googled "mechanical error in trigger pull weight". :uhoh: Random, systematic, human and...

    Digital Trigger Gauge

Yes, but a lot of the rocket parts would be put together with bubbafied screws. But at least now I would have an idea of how to get them out... and "We can get a little more orbital velocity of this sucker if we just compress the rocket fuel a little bit past what the manual says. Just check...

    Digital Trigger Gauge

Penny wise, pound foolish, I am ;) . No doubt, a purpose built gauge is the best way to go. I Googled for tigger gauges and stuff and found Triggerscan. That would be fun to have as well, but right now I keep spending my money on other things. If anyone has followed my Axis rifle thread, you...

    Digital Trigger Gauge

Good thought. I should test the error with some weight in the neighborhood of the results I was seeing. I was able to center the pistols on the scale, but offset the rifle for obvious reasons.

    Digital Trigger Gauge

I like that idea. If you know what weight you want to set it to, easy enough to find a few things that add up to that weight. Not as tricky to hold it all together and more direct. I suppose it would be easy enough with an adjustable trigger to hang the weight off of it and turn the adjustment...
