This was my test shots for my ar15 .223, 55gr Hornady boat tail bullets, using various loads of XBR powder. While using sandbags at 100 yards. All the brass was annealed and of the same lot numbered were used. The top right was my best charge at 24.0 gr.
Five shots for each charge, no scope...
I would like to add this.
While using the powder measure, and you feel a slight hang/change in the feel while dumping the charge into the case you are cutting a grain of powder in half which will make that charge +\- different.
When I feel that glitch in the handle I automatically dump that...
I’ve had both old and newer ones. From time to time I’d have to take it apart and clean and lube it.
Check the center bolt/nut for tightness, it should take alittle effort to move it.
With it lubed and tighten the movement should go away.
Do you have the dark colored press or the orange colored. On the darker one it has an adjustable bolt on the backside to take up the slack.
On both styles, you will need to take the T-head off and clean it. It has a spring loaded ball bearing w/indent that should be cleaned and lubed, by...
Got my Primer Catcher yesterday.
I'm Very pleased with it.
No more chasing spent primers.
I ordered it from Amazon.com on Monday morning, received it by noon Thursday.
If you guys on here are thinking about this primer catcher for Rock Chucker iv, go ahead and get it you won't be sorry...
I'd let it soak in a five gallon bucket of vinegar for a few days. It will eat any rust or old grease off the press.
It will take about 4 days to clean the rust off. After washing off with clean water, dry off and re-lube the press. I found this method on YouTube, it works.
Try using the bipod with a small rear sandbag. With my 16" AR, I use front and rear sandbags. I had similar problems using just the bipod even with a mid-level scope.
RCBS makes a "Swager Tool-2" that opens up the primer pocket, without removing any brass.
Used on a single stage or turret press. It processes both large and small primer pockets.
After processing a lot of brass you will know what needs to be processed.
I've reemed thousands pieces by hand...
Your necks maybe hardened and springing back out after sizing.
I'm into anealing about every 3rd. time I reload my cases. My case necks retained the same size as my expansion ball's diameter.
Be careful in polishing the expansion ball and not go to far. .221 to .222 what I look for.
No crimp...
I'm in the process of finding right combinations with these bullets, out of a 16" barrel 1-8 twist. I'm using 8208XBR and CFE223, so far I'm not seeing anything I like. For me I'm seeing just under 2" @ 100yards. My next tests will be up .5gr and .7gr.
Hornady 55gr V-Max.
Is my goto load in...
As a rule in ladder tests, is to start low and work up the load. Never go below listed min. or over listed max. I weigh each powder charge when I'm ladder testing.
Myself, I make 5 to 10 rounds per charge weight. Then up the charge weight by .03 of a grain from the previous charge. Along with...
