thanks Cosmoline, I'll look into that, really want to get this ole' girl to the range. Never fired it yet, just wondering if the recoil is about the same as my 450 marlin.
I've owned wheel guns AND, autos the better part of my life, and I've never had a malfunction with any wheel guns, even the cheap wheelers never malfunctioned, I've had duds, but thats no problem, on the other hand, almost all of my autos have had some issues with problems,ie; stove pipe, nose...
These sights are on a brand new Pedersoli frontier long gun 50 cal flintlock. The rear sight is non adjustable, windage nor elevation. thier suspose to be correct sights to the time period of the rifle,so says Pedersoli Co. Sights installed by them at factory.
I don't know about the notch at the bottom being for 75-100 yds. I first tryed that at about 40yds and it hit about two feet low. And it wasn't just once, it was every time at that range.
Nothing wrong with that, I didn't say I didn't like inlines, I own a CVA optima pro mag 45cal. It is very accurate and a heck of alot easier to clean than my other two, but I like shooting round balls. I get more out of the hunt with the traditional guns. I make all my own flints, possibles...
I,ve pretty much given up modern firearms for hunting, to easy to kill something with a scope on it. I guess the choice of firearm is totally up to the shooter and what he or she thinks is best for him or her, and what the shooter will get the most injoyment out of. I injoy these two ole' girls...
I was shooting my poor man rifle at 100yds about two weeks ago and I was hitting a 64oz. pop bottle just about evey time I shot, and as Giz said, flintlocks turns a few heads at the range, and exciting to hunt with.
I feel the same about the old smoke poles, this is my poor mans 50 cal flintlock, not the easiest thing to clean but worht the fun you get out of shooting it. At 50yds it shoots just as good as a inline with open sites.
I had a CVA staghorn and it was probably the cheapest and most accurate bp gun I owned, 90 grns bp and a 50cal power belt, and it would shoot two inch groups @ 100 yds all day. Like a dummy I sold it, wish I had it back.
