K-31 Swiss - should I go for it?

Ammo is easy. Uses .308 bullets, every now and then Graf's makes a run of brass. The GP-11 is cheap, $230 for 480 rounds, that is cheaper than decent .308 now. The GP-11 is the only ammo I know of that hasn't about doubled in price in the last few years. So far my running count is four rifles...

    Strange question--carnival shooting gallery guns?

I tried the shoot the star game a few times, my girlfriend has a giant yellow duck now. Great fun for kids. The worst I saw was overseas, the game had a tube loaded spring piston rifle you had to cock each shot. The targets were nylon string. One end was tied to a spring overhead, the other to...

3 dot or 2 dot night sights?

Heinie. Love my Straight 8s. I think Novak does some 1911 sights with green dot front/orange horizontal bar rear. I'd like to try those too. 3 dots is too much!

toothpaste, baking soda, etc...home action jobs

Toothpaste will work. I use valve lapping compound for really rough stuff but it is a little too aggressive. JB and CLP slurry works great. My preference though is to hit up a good truck stop and head to where the wheel polishing junk is and find a bottle of liquid rouge.

    federal .22 junk?

6 years ago I bought my last Federal Rimfire. Gold Medal target, about $30 for a brick, had at least 2 failures to fire per 50. I had that experience with other Federal too. Their priming is not what I care for. CCI, PMC seem to have the most reliable rimfire priming for the cheap stuff.

    Welding

If you are planning on calling yourself a gunsmith you need to learn to silver solder, that will get used a lot installing sights, shotgun ribs, re-joining double barrels if you get really high tech, etc. I think Tig is about the only weld process you would need or want near a gun unless you...

how to not scream AMERICAN in a foreign country

I have been lucky enough to have had nothing but positive encounters overseas. What did your hair look like? Many Americans associated with the military or tactical trades have a head that looks like it. Don't shave, let the hair run a little wild. Bonus points if you can pull off one of...

    Mechanized Round Counting

I have an old Dillon one that the op-rod was apparently activated by the bullet in the crimp station. Never used it, I count by boxes of bullets.

    1911, Lefty Shooter & Ambi-Safety

AndyC, how do you get your trigger finger to the safety? Is it before you grip the gun? I have competed as a lefty with non ambi guns, On the draw I bring my hands together on centerline with the top of the gun rolled to the right. I activate the safety from over top the slide with the right...

IDPA qualifier ... what to expect?

Most points are lost on the "long range stage. Look at the course, easiest way to get rid of a ton of time is to get your draw down to a science. I shot it once about 5 years ago as a pending member, never sent IDPA any money. It was easily an expert time. Too easy to qualify well, IDPA needs a...

What handgun add-on has really worked?

Glock 50 cents worth of skateboard tape on the entire grip and Heinie Straight 8 sights. That is all they need.

Your thoughts on the Dremel Rotary Tool

I are a mechanic so I is safe. :neener: I have tons of metalworking experience with tools that do a lot more damage than a dremel so I enjoy having a dremel around for odd jobs. Not big polishing though. A lot of people I have seen do metal work can't be trusted with a pencil eraser(it's...

NEED HELP INSTALLING SCHERER SUPER 2 MAG EXTENSIONS!

Yep, that's how you install them or almost any other thing that says Scherer. There are some good extensions out there, I have a few G17 mags with +5s on them from Glockmeister. The extension is aluminum, locks on with allen screws at the back and comes with the correct spring. They are...

how detailed do you get with your pistol brass?

Only time I ever sorted was to make a accuracy seeking 9mm load, I picked out a bunch of once fired WCC which is great 9mm brass. Matching brass on a 9mm can yield good results since there is not much internal case volume and headstamps may vary. The load was incredible. Other than that I have...

    My plan to foil tresspassers...

...were you doing there? P: Deer huntin' S: Did you have permission to hunt there? P: Didn't see no sign so I opened the gate and went on in. S: *dials buddy, the game warden* Wait here for a minute with me son. Poacher knows how that conversation is going to go too. They don't start it...

    Shot shells for squirrels

If you bite into a squirrel and hit a tender spot then you just bit a piece of shot. I prefer .22. I'm sure the dove loads will do the trick.

    Where meat comes from

Great, now only the wimmin cook and asian wimmen cook pets. Love the stereotype. My wife, a great holiday baker, once tried to kill a pot boiling water. The marks from the blackened very hard boiled eggs are still there 12 years later. She doesn't like to cook but can manage if given a recipe. I...
