I will probably take it to a gunsmith, its from the 50s, but is in real good shape. Just needs a good wipedown and some oil. Would like to have this firing both barrels, I am hoping there is something simple thats broke.
I recently inherited a Stevens Model 311a 20g and it looks to be in pretty good condition. I just wanted to confirm one thing...
The front trigger operates the right barrel, but when I pull the second trigger, nothing happens. I have pulled the stock off to inspect the inner workings and it...
just an update, I am finally moved in to the house here in VA and have dated this gun to 1909. I will get pictures up this weekend.
Anyone know a good 1873 gunsmith in southern VA? this thing will need some work!
I will definitely have some pictures in a month or so once I move back to VA. This is just one of a few old guns that I will have.
Only other rifle is a Japanese rifle that I think is from WWII, has a bayonet
Thanks for the input so far. I will definitely find a good gunsmith to mess with this gun. I had no plans to "restore" this gun. I just wanted it to be a working original firearm. I am pretty sure it has sat in a closet since the 1970s
My father in law has a few guns that I will have my hands on in the next few months. The one that stands out is a 1873 Winchester which was owned by his great grandfather. He said that it was probably from the late 1800s early 1900s. Has an octagon barrel and is 32 caliber.
The gun...
You can go EAA/USSG MP310. Russian gun. about 400-450 bucks. Built like a tank. I love my 12g 310, about 1500 rounds through it since August without a glitch.
my wife's 870 youth 20g kicks close to my 12g, especially with anything other than light target loads. if you do get a youth pump, try to get one with a heavier wood stock over a synthetic to help absorb a bit of the recoil, especially with waterfowl loads.
I think in regards to the express guns and the chamber issues, alot of the grief is being put on remington but more should be put on the ammo. Alot of people seem to steer towards the cheap "value shells" which I have seem jam in everything from express guns to $2k citoris.
My 870 will not...
Hopefully remington honors their warranty or quality control with guns sold through walmart. Usually walmart gets the "junk". The goodyear tires they sell do not carry the same warranty as standard tires, the Fram filters are "light duty"... the list goes on
As long as it is not a Magnum model you should be good. My 30" magnum will not cycle the trap loads. But on the plus side, you dont have to go running around picking up shells, just hand cycle it and put it in your pocket.
I dont use the 30" barrel, just keep it in the case and use my...
I have the Baikal MP310. Russian, about $400-500 depending on what model you get. It is a very stiff gun right out of the box, but read the tricks online and it smooths out real good. I have over 1,000 rounds through mine since August, and not even the slightest hit of something going wrong...
I have a Baikal MP310, which can be found as an EAA, USSG, or Remington Spartan. I have almost 1000 rounds through it since buying it in August. No issues what so ever
I had a bit of rusting when I first got it and took it out into the marsh. I ended taking the stock and forend off and sprayed it all down with some gun oil rust preventative stuff and wrapped it all up with some plastic wrap for a day or so.
Seemed that the finish and the vent rib areas...
I recently bought a Baikal IZH-27, which is marketed through EAA/USSG as an MP310. I got the sporting version with 30" barrels, and it was $500 even after shipping, tax and fees. I have almost 1000 rounds through it now and hasnt hiccuped once. its an O/U, not sure if you were looking for...
