Using a Ravin R29 cossbow that is rated at 430 feet per second. Purchase a suitable target rated at 450 fps. Distance is 50 yards, getting the scope dialed in and everything looks pretty good. Target is new and arrows are not going into previous holes, then two arrows go so far into the target...
Over the years I've purchased numerous commercial ladder stands. Longevity and quality are lacking....extremely thin walled tubing bolted together with tiny screws and bolts. After a few years they work loose and creak, just don't hold up.
Liked the concept and basic design of a ladder stand...
Hornady was one of the first to make available 450 Bushmaster rounds w/250gr FTX bullets. When I began reloading that round, tried to duplicate the factory round and succeeded. Reloads and factory ammo produced identical point of impact. Now I'm having trouble finding the 250gr FTX bullets...
With meat inflation prices going skyward, rethinking how many deer tags I'll buy this year. Year to date so far beef is up about 14%, pork 17%, and poultry is a whopping 40%.
Have the ability to pick up at least six deer tags (archery, blackpowder, & gun) for this season. While deer has never...
Deer season is just around the corner, checking cameras weekly. Plenty of does and fawns....bucks seem to be few and well hidden.
What's showing up on your cameras?
In the last 20 years most young shooters have been exposed to black guns w/electronic sights that spit out ammo like a fire hose. So I took my 14 year old grandson to the range for a history lesson regarding guns not made any longer.
Remember hearing a gun writer once say "There are...
Not to hijack the (pound or pound) thread, but it brings up something inquiring minds want to know.
Checking the Brownells web site, Ramshot Competition Clays powder is advertised as a one pound container....but only holds 12 ounces. You can purchase 4 & 8 pound jugs that supposedly hold the...
A rather costly and eye opening experience this week that folks should be aware of.....
I buy some of the higher end optics because of features, quality, and service provided by those manufacturers. Purchased a Swarovski 8 x 30 laser rangefinder in late 2008. Wonderful piece of equipment to be...
Weathered this last reloading drought in better shape than many....but I may have underestimated difficulty in getting powders. Been almost a year and half since I could find some of what I use. Now that shelves are starting to be restocked....contemplating how far to go to avoid another...
Occasionally I'll see a thread regarding a poorly performing gun or ammo, sort of write these off as getting a rare lemon now and then. I understand not everything produced performs perfect right from the factory. I've had an extremely good run of luck with firearm purchases, very few...
Pondering how firearms get named. If I were to create the next ground breaking firearm innovation....would I want my name on it? (ie: The "Rembrandt" 9mm.....or the "Rembrandt" line of rifles)
Perhaps some get named as a tribute to the designer?
Examples would be Colt, Browning, Boberg...
Sometimes gun shows are a bit like a scavenger hunt...hoping to find a gem or the elusive "grail gun".
While that one rare item doesn't show up often, are you prepared to jump on it the moment it does appear? Stash of cash? Credit card? Item to trade?......what's the plan?
Over the years I've experimented with different reactive targets, most were geared for .22 rim fire. Have gotten by with mild steel to some extent, needed something a little tougher for the bigger calibers. Made a falling silhouette, swinger, and clay target last year. For this season picked up...
In the market for a low profile red dot sight with a finer dot, perhaps something less than 2.0 moa? Bigger dots are fine for close range but would like something smaller for 50-to-100 yards. Putting it on an AR 9mm pistol.
I'm sure whoever designs range bags and gun cases tries their hardest to accommodate a majority of the shooters. Most of the time I find the "one size fits all" approach to be a rather poor compromise when it comes to magazine pouches. It's like they thought everyone must carry 30 round...
Throughout history Nations have come and gone....it seems I have firearms made in countries that no longer exist, merged, or changed their name. Wonder how many others there are?
