Thanks for the great suggestions guys. I hit it with a blow dryer a little today and used an old sock to wipe it. That got some stuff off the stock. I think I'll just leave it as it is for now. I don't want to take any chances on damaging a historical stock.
I recently got a CMP M1 service grade. The USGI stock is really dirty. I'm not sure if I should clean it because I don't want to damage the collector value. Any suggestions on how to clean it without damaging collector value?
I have to agree with Grunt on this. Most Mosins are cheap now, but they will be collectible and valuable in the future if they are not modified. Especially since so many people are butchering them.
The owners manual to my video camera says to seal the camera in a plastic bag in the cold air. Bring it inside and let it warm up inside the plastic bag for about an hour. Then take it out of the bag in the house. I'm sure that would work for guns too. Too bad there are no zip lock bags that are...

I don't get it either. If you want a hunting rifle, why not just buy a hunting rifle? You could just sell the military rifle to fund a new hunting rifle if you don't appreciate the history of the gun.
Thanks for the info guys. I'm hoping that 36 inches will be long enough for my Mosin 91/30. The 36 inch one is about $7 cheaper than the longer ones on Amazon.
