None on my base either. The only place I knew of was Naval Support Activity, Taipei, Taiwan. My wife got me a Colt New Frontier (1972). I needed special permission. Of all the places I was stationed over 20 years that was the only place I remember having weapons/ammo.

I got a Ruger P-95 for the same reasons. But I no longer use it as a carry weapon. For home defense and range practice it's great. It feels more comfortable in my hand than the P-89. As with any good weapon you practice as much as possible for comfort and accuracy.
We've had a bit of an ammo shortage out my way. After the inaugeration there was a lot of "panic" buying. In some respects sort of silly but such is life.
