Lever guns - hating on Henry

I grab my Rossi M92 for a few shots almost every day. The others just sit in the safe, maybe get loaned out or shot every year or so. So I guess the M92 is the one I like most for fit and function. Three gophers and a ground hog yesterday off hand. Pests between the house and barn. .357 might...

Aside from the AR or AK, what is your favorite home defense carbine

My M44 is pretty handy and has a bayonet. Its very reliable and with no neighbors with in range the most over penetration would do is hit a cow. Of course I would need ear plugs and sun glasses for the flash and bang!

    Weatherby Vanguard or Rem 788?

Remmington 788 I purchased a a 788 in .243 35 years ago. Since then it has taken over 40 white tails and countless coyotes, a few ground hogs, opossums, skunks, etc. It has been used by my Dad, wife, and 4 kids. Was and still is able to break an egg at my 100 yard range every shot. I'd go...

    Thoughts on LC9

I picked one up for my wife when they first came out. We both thought the trigger and recoil were OK. She has since adopted one of my .357 snubbies for a purse gun, so I use the LC9 for a backup and occasional shooter. 2000 + rounds and it's still perfect. Oh it is as accurate as you will be...

Who Still ACTIVELY Shoots the .30-06?

I use several calibers but highly rated for me are my Remington 742 and Savage 110, both in 30.06. My first deer many years ago was with my 03 A3, of course in 30.06.

    Wisconsin news flash

200,000 Permits Issued in WI Glad to hear it. My wife and I each have low numbered permits as well! I also "had" to buy 2 new handguns as well. I just had the "nothing like what was predicted by the antis" discussion today with a guy at lunch. He did not seem happy, imagin that.

What rifle do you squirrel hunt with?

For squirrels My favorite is my Stevens 22 410 (pre dates the Savage model 24) with iron sites. I have used a 6 in barreled. 357 and even a Mosin 91 30, but the 22 410 goes out a lot more often.

    The lowly .243

.243 and deer I've got a Remington 788 in .243 that I bought new in the mid 70's after getting out of the army. Counting myself, wife, kids, and other relatives, it has taken over 30 deer on this farm, never lost one that I know of. Mostly 100 to 150 yard shots but I did take one at over 300...

    best deer round for .243

My Rem 788 in .243 has taken over 30 deer on our farm (kids and other family) all with 100 grain Corelocks. Some have been good shots and a few thru the shoulder, but all of them dropped right about there. The 100 grain always has enough penetration.

    Sporterized Mosin-Nagant owner questions?

Do what you Want Do what you want with your Mosin, as other have said there is a pretty good pile of them out there, and unless you are starting a collection what difference does it make, they are enjoyable. Unless you really like a scope, you probably don't need a scope for general shooting...

    .357 magnum laud/flash/recoil

I am concerned about my hearing and have some hearing loss from my time working for Uncle Sam, and don't want it to get worse. I shoot a lot and really love loud flashy .357 rounds. With .22s I wear headphones, anything else it's ear plugs and head phones!

    Burrrp! Anyone else feeling OVERstocked?

I have a pretty good supply of what I use but every time I shoot something I wonder if I will be able to get more this decade. Last week I got 4000 9mm and .357 bullets I ordered earlier at a pretty good price. On Tuesday I was driving back to WI from a funeral in GA and stopped by the Outpost...

What gun for carrying on ranch/farm?

On my farm I am almost always carrying a .357 686 with a 6 inch barrel , but lately my High Point 9mm cabine had been comming along. It's fun to shoot, accurate, and I don't worry about scratches, mars etc.

    9mm carbine, worth it?

9mm Carbine I have to agree with the other posters, especially Cornhusker77. I keep a Highpoint 9mm carbine on the back porch and it has dispatched the occasional raccoon or coyote, when the .357 was not handy. When ever a new or novice shooter stops by we all get a kick out of dumping a few...

Any know problems with the .338 Win Mag?

338 Mine has always performed as advertised, but does give a solid kick. Slip on recoil pad helps.

    hamburg shoulder

Ditto on the "Limbsaver" Ditto on the "Limbsaver". I can say that recoil is not usually a problem for me, but I have added one to a couple of my nasty kickers, and I just seem to shoot them more.

Unlawful Possession of Ammunition in Massachusetts?

I just checked my trunk, 200 9mm, 50 .357, 525 .22 Hollow Points, and 25 12 gauge #4 shells. Pretty common for me. I actually do drive thru Chicago from time to time, I guess I need to clean out my trunk.

    Hunting with Milsurps

I used to use my old 03-A3 but not for the last 30 years or so since I got a few "new" rifles. I have been using my Mosin 91/30 up in my tree stand lately when the deer are out of range of my .357. With the Brown Bear 203 grain soft points a few deer have tipped over right after the shot.
