to tap an 81 yr old .22lr for scop & sling....hurmmm

See if it doesn't have extra holes on the back side of the receiver on the left side. If it does, you can mount a peep sight that's accurate. This is a photo of a Winchester 75 that came with a peep sight. It's a 1949.

what do you have in .270 ?

I've used one .270 or another since the 1960s. The one that I currently use is the Winchester 70 LH, the middle rifle in the photo, stainless with the wood stock. I've loaded rounds for the .270 from 90 grains to 150 grains and all have worked great.

45 colt in a lever rifle

There is a lot of misinformation here. First, on a 1873, the toggles aren't the weak links; the thin receiver metal where the barrel and magazine tube attach to the receiver is the weak point in a 1873. Newer, current, made 1873s have stronger metal in the receiver so failures at the...

    Restore Old Cannon Ball

Even the hammer doesn't always work. When I was a teenager in Pascagoula, MS, one of our neighbors used a Civil War cannon ball in their back yard to crack pecans on. The Union, I think under Adm. Farragut, had a naval engagement at Pascagoula, which left a few cannon balls laying around. I...

    Show Your Left Handed Guns!

Here's a couple of LH CZ 452s in 22LR and 17HMR at the top. The bottom rifle is a Remington 581L. The top is a Savage 110J in .223 and then a Winchester 70 in .270. The bottom is my son's CZ 452 American. We're both left handed. Here's a Remington 700 VSL in .223. I shoot...

    Any trapdoor shooters here?

I've got an 1884 Springfield Trapdoor (the bottom rifle) that I shoot in a blue moon. I use 5744 powder. Most reloading manuals list smokeless loads that are safe in blackpowder rifles. Just wouldn't overdo it. Blackpowder rounds are easy to load, too.

    357 AA#9 XTP Load Confusion

Call Hornady and ask them. I did that recently about their FTX bullets and they transferred me to a very helpful gent who clarified my mixup.

    45 Colt loads??

I've been loading the 45 Colt FTX bullets with Titegroup. Can't remember if I got the recipe from the Hodgon Data site or from their 2011 annual. Also got a pound of the Leverevolution powder, but haven't tried it yet. The Titegroup has worked fine. I've got a lot of confidence in Titegroup...

    Anyone Fired a Chiappa 1911-22?

I first posted this in RimFire Central.... I picked up this Chiappa 1911-22 a couple of weeks ago. I've been really surprised with it's performance. The trigger measured at a little over 5 lbs and the accuracy is very good. I tried about a dozen brands of ammo; and CC Standard Velocity and...

Anyone bought/sold a Service Six recently?

About six months ago, I bought a blued one with 6" barrel for $260. The seller was a pilot in VN and was sold the gun while he was in the Army. I don't know if these were issued or what, but he never took his out of the box and the gun looked brand new. Then another friend told me that I had...

    Titegroup and 10mm cast loads

I've loaded and shot well over 10,000 cast 200 grain 45 Colt bullets using Titegroup in SASS. I've used Titegroup in cast and jacketed rounds in 38 Special, 38-40, 44-40, 44 Special, 357 Magnum, 38 Super and a few more. I buy it in 8 lb cans. Right now, I'm loading 500 rounds of 185 grain Nosler...

Talk me into/out of a Colt Delta Elite or a Glock 20

Look at a Kimber Target II in 10mm. Not cheap, but the best 10mm that I've seen and I've owned a Delta and shot a G20.

    Scope for Marlin 30-30

Just changed from a Williams sight, for twenty years on a 30-30, to a Leupold VXII 2X7 33 with the Long Range Reticle. Got it at Cabela's on sale for $299. Nice small scope with great field of vision and eye relief. Seems to work really well here in the deep South. I'm thinking about buying two...
