How Many are Now Carrying a Cane?

I like the irregularity of the threads/twists of the white, and the color of the green.

    The "Walker Stick"

How does it feel in the hand after using it for a day? Is it comfortable? Does the angle of the handle feel correct when walking? Some of the hames I have tried don't fit my hand or the angle isn't comfortable to use all day. I ask cause I assume you attatched it square on the shaft, it is...

If You Could Only Have One Cane, Which One?

I will have to get to a scale to weigh them. I don't have an accurate scale that weighs something this light. It is heavier than the larger diameter Osange Orange cane. Bother are cut to be 36 1/2". I didn't weigh it before I cut it or put the handle on. Probably around 2 lbs or so for the...

If You Could Only Have One Cane, Which One?

I have several but 2 would be hard to choose from, One is Osange Orange that is a 1" by 1 1/4" oblong with a 95 degree branch. Dried it without cracks or checks, scrapped the loose bark with a butterknife to rid the loose stuff, smoothed with steel wool, cut to length and used 5 coats of...

How do I make a cane?

On most of mine, I scrapped the bark to get off what was loose, lightly sanded it with 40 grit sand paper to get off anything loose or dusty, sanded it with 220 sand paper, used 00 steel wool on it. Then to seal it I use Helmsman Spar Urethane satin. Good for indoor or outdoor use. 5 or 6 coats...

Canes, heavy club or fast whip?

I have several canes a few that I made. I made two from Phenoic rods that I leaned about here, from several members. Link to rods. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=24375&catid=0&clickid=popcorn The first I made was from a 1 inch CE grade rod. Nice, heavy, and seemingly...

Best wood for fighting stick / walking cane?

http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=40904&catid=679 This place is fairly local to me and I have used several different diameters for cane/walking sticks, after reading about them here. Most folks think they are wood.

    best empty hand defense website

Next month I start my 40th year practicing Akido. From reading your first post I think you are looking for something that is mainly joint locks and submissions rather than striking or throws. Problem is those techniques take much more time and experience to be good at compared to striking or...

    Canes

Here is a link to an inexpensive stock cane. with shipping should be under $20. http://www.enasco.com/product/C07436N You can soak the crook and heat with a heat gun/paint stripper till it gets hot, straighten it, and cut the excess off the handle if you wish. There are others on that site but...

    Sword Canes

I will get 3"-4" on one end worked down to 5/8" diameter and use a forstner bit on a wood L shaped handle and epoxy them. Maybe use a 1/4" hardwood dowel through the handle and shaft for extra holding, a brass or stainless steel ferrule with a removable rubber tip for pavement and indoor use...

    Sword Canes

Thanks for the link to them. After you mentioned them beforeI tried a bit of a search but didn't find where to get a single rod before. How heavy are they? I just got some Texas ebony 66lbs per cubic foot (heavier than water) so the cane should be right about 1 1/2 lb's or so ( if my math is...

    Startin' em early

My brother-in-law from Arkansas sent me a stick with vine twists of hop hornbeam and one of osasge orange for Christmas so I can make a couple canes next year after they dry down. I am looking forward to that. He found them when scouting out game trails for hunting.

    Startin' em early

The part that impressed me most, was when she didn't want to touch a knife. She was taught not to play with a real knife. It is good she knows how to correctly handle one when it is explained that it is a toy. Says a lot about her parents.

    Re-thinking tactics with age.

Forgive me if this sounds blunt. In your cane thread you described yourself as68 years old, 5'8", and 160lbs with a 50% disability from your armed service,(thank you for that). It might be different for someone larger no matter the age. If you look like an older, smaller, partially disabled...
