First post: Newb with a Sig P229. Questions.

I highly advise Mec-Gar magazines for the p229.There is a 15rd 9mm magazine that fits flush an is only like $22 from TGS. http://www.topgunsupply.com/mec-gar_p228-229-9mm-15rd-magazine-blue.html

Did You Ever Do Something Stupid, like......

While disassembling my P229r, I forgot that I still had the disassembly lever in a vertical position. Dropped the slide. *fwoop* Went flying into the wall.

    Sig 40 Cal.

For what purpose? Every SIG pistol being produced today is a nice gun on its own merits. What size are you looking at? What capacity do you need? Price range?

Trouble with SIG mag catch install

Hah, no problems. I'm glad it worked out for you. There is going to be a lot of tightness (and looseness in other places) you'll notice after your first detail strip and clean... you're doing it right! That SIG is 30+ years old? Gorgeous condition, from the posted pictures. Family hand down?

Trouble with SIG mag catch install

Gun Noob, Word from on high is that you're using the proper parts. The only reasonable explanation is that you'd grown accustomed to a light, easy action in the catch, and after disassembly and cleaning you're just now experiencing the full 'protrusion', so to speak, of the catch's rear...

Trouble with SIG mag catch install

No, that looks about right to me. I guess perhaps it seems a mite long, but it's miniscule... probably just the angle. I'm not sure what else it could be. If the magazine catch spring is seated (enough that it takes more than a gentle shake to unseat it), it ought to be totally horizontal...

Trouble with SIG mag catch install

Are you sure that the magazine catch assembly (in general) is assembled properly? The actual removal isn't very tricky- the reinsertion is, though. You need an incredibly thin point- a jeweler's flathead ought to work, 3/16" maybe?- and you need to depress the little detent on the side of...

    I wish Sig would...

    SIG-Sauer P239. 9mm. 8rd + 1 in the chamber. DA/SA. Decocker. Looks like a P229 on a diet. Is 9mm not full sized enough?

    Crossbreed Supertucks...

Mine arrived in 20 days. Be prepared to go up a size in the waist. Granted I'm carrying a thick weapon (P229), but unless your current size fits incredibly loosely, you'll need larger pants. My typical jeans fit comfortably (I can easily slip a finger in the waistband) but there was no hope...

    RWS 9mm Ammo?

It works well but, as everyone has said, it's not priced competitively for target ammo.

    SIG P220 slide question.

The magazine catch is reversible, yes. If you decide to go ahead with it, feel free to ask. I can give you detailed instruction.

The efficacy of racking the slide with the hammer back vs forward

Thanks. :) I can rack the slide just fine, thankfully. There have been some pistols (Kahrs, mostly) that gave me a little trouble but on my SIG the slide actuation is smooth as butter. I was just curious about the actual technical going-ons and whether the hammer assembly played into the...

The efficacy of racking the slide with the hammer back vs forward

Thank you to everyone for your answers. t sideways: I hardly think that I'm ignorant and 'asking stupid questions'. I've taken several NRA certified courses, and I've acquired an armorer's DVD for my eventual carry weapon. I can fully disassemble and reassemble my pistol. However, I'm not...

The efficacy of racking the slide with the hammer back vs forward

Thanks for your response. There is actually no practical relevance to the question I'm asking. I simply want to better understand the internal machinations of the pistol I'll be carrying.

The efficacy of racking the slide with the hammer back vs forward

I don't plan on ever needing to rack the slide in 'the moment'. As I said in the OP, this is just technical curiosity.

The efficacy of racking the slide with the hammer back vs forward

Hey, guys. :) So my carry license is almost here!... stupid municipality and its stupidness. I've been reading a lot and handling my gun (with snap-caps!) a lot, in preparation for the mental commitment to carry. I've made the decision that with my DA/SA P229, I'd like to carry +1, with...

    Sig P220R Compact barrel replacement???

You can find a new P229 in .40 for about $750. $650 used should be very doable.

A gun for a highschool graduate

Bigger than .22lr? Iconic in movies and games? 'Cool' factor for a young man? In that price range? Easy: used Glock 17 or 19. 9mm, 'evil black semi-auto' for coolness, one of the most widespread and recognizable pistols in the world... seems perfect for the bill, for me.

What is with all the crappy magazines?

Your 'made in Italy' magazines are produced by Mec-Gar... they are the OEM manufacturers, and you are good on that front. You've probably improperly reassembled your magazine.

    My GLOCK jammed!

UMC is hit or miss, right now. My favorite 9mm (P229R) has been flawless, and my first time putting UMC through it... ugh. First off, two rounds (out of 150) were defective- mangled primers. And it seemed underpowered, too- two failures to lock out of battery, and I'm quite sure I wasn't...
