Pittsburgh has a sign that says firearms need to be checked in at the customer service desk. No mention of CCWs so I asked. The nice young girl at the desk said that the policy does not apply to CCWs.
As far as you buying a firearm mail order it really isn't that difficult. You just go to you local dealer and have them send a copy of their FFL to the seller. The seller ships it to your chosen dealer and you pick it up there after the paperwork is down. I have purchased 5 or 6 and sold two...
The short answer is "You are dealing with the fed, of course it is a hassle" :)
I believe to get a Class 1 FFL (the kind that let you do transfers or sell non Curio & Relic firearms) you need to be in the business.
A "transfer dealer" is simply a FFL holder that is listed on GA's site as someone who will handle transfers. The websites do not require that interstate handgun sales and transactions involving shipping a firearm be conducted throught a FFL, that is federal law.
I don't have a carbine so i don't have any numbers. The barrel on my current Redhawk is 7.5". I never had the 5.5 and the 7.5 out on the same day shooting that same loads but my notes seem to indicate the actually shot everything at about the same speed.
Ben, how do those numbers compare with...
Ben,
The 230 gr cast goes 1410fps with 18grs of #9. With 2400, 19grs gives me 1417fps. 16grs of blue dot gives me 1421fps.
The 210XTP goes 1405 with 18grs of #9. With blue dot 16grs gives me about the same speed.
According to my manuals, both those blue dot loads are a bit over max...
CZ57 beat me to it. I have found AA#9 to be the best powder going in my 41. I use 18grs with Hornaday's 210 gr XTP and a 230gr Keith cast bullet. works great for me!
From Smith and Wesson's web site
Wow, you stumbled on to something that is getting pretty old now! May be they sold them as training and practice guns.
I have shot the 230gr Keiths at close to 1500fps from my Redhawk. Recoil wasn't bad at all. Now I shot the same bullets at 1200fps out of a 28oz Taurus Tracker TI.....that was more interesting!
For the 41 I would look a LeadHead's 230gr Keith. It does not have a bevel base and the same bullet from a different caster (no longer casting) shoots well in my Redhawk.
