$500-$600 is real fair market value in my opinion.
I have the same rifle & would laugh at a lowball offer.
Remember, this rifle is no longer being imported.
Been to MBISR many times. Used to compete in the local matches. Purchased many guns & ammo there over the years. Civil War Museum next door is a plus.
Ted was the owner back then & is a hell of a guy.

I stopped shooting them after one got stuck in the barrel of my Marlin 981T.
I've since found CCI CB Shorts to be much more reliable, accurate and about the same price. Very quiet.
The Marlin model 781 that I posted earlier can also shoot shorts, longs & long rifle as can the model 981T.
Not sure if the Savage can do that.
981T also has the T-900 trigger. Easily adjusted.
The model you are looking for is the Marlin 781.
I have one.
Tube fed, 22lr, bolt action, wood stock.
They no longer make this model but you can get a 981T and swap in a 781 wood stock from Numrich's gun parts.
EDIT: Found a used one on GB...
I did the pen spring trigger mod to my Marlin 981T with a T-900 trigger.
It took about 10 minutes.
1.Remove the bottom C-clip allowing the bottom pin to be removed. Remove trigger.
2. Remove spring & replace with new spring. (mine was a pen spring snipped in half)...
