Scope for RUger M77 MKII RSI in 308

My two Ruger No.1RSIs and one m77RSI wear 1x-4x 20mm scopes - duplex reticle. I've used them hunting - taken deer and hogs at distances of 30yds out to 225yds with no problems at all. I think the straight tube looks fantastic on the RSI style rifles, gives it a classic look.

    The Handiest "Tactical" tools

My EDC is usually: Victorinox Farmer (love the saw blade) on key chain - Car & House/Work keys. Photon light (or Maglite Solitare). Small Victorinox (Classic?) with blade, nailfile, scissors, tweezers & toothpick. Small Ferro rod (2" firestarter). P38 or P51 can opener(with "blade"taped...

    DIY weapons

Sanderson, Look around you - expedient weapons are everywhere. Spears and swords are hard to find laying around or to carry in public - but did you ever wonder why military & police always seem to have Cross Pens clipped to their shirt pockets - they make excellent "under the radar" stabbing...

    Which AR-Mods for you, why?

With the "workhorse" style in mind - I bult an old school carbine : a2 upper 16" heavy barrel with a2 flashider m-4 carbine forend with heat shields 6 position retractable stock ergo brand soft grip.....that pretty much handled it. HOWEVER, if doing it again - I'd use an A3 flatop upper...

    CDNN - Colt A2 Carbine $899.99 good deal ?

I agree with Jackal, get yourself a lower receiver and a complete upper kit. You can configure the upper any way, shape or form you like. Kits are available from many sources - easy and fun to put it all together. I did that myself when I built mine...A2, 16" heavy barrel, M4 style handguard...

    All around varmint/deer caliber?

Leonard23 Of the 3 calibers you listed, I'd suggest the .243 - its good for varmints and deer and the recoil won't knock you around. If you do your part (shot placement !!) the .243 is fine for deer. It's also a great caliber for new shooters to learn on. The .25-06 is great for long range...

what should i do with my ar 15

Blinky, I've think any style AR rifle (tactical or varmint) set up is easily capable of rendering a coyote DRT out to 300 yards. It's very easy to put together a very versatile AR system or you can build a AR for a very specific use - tactical or varmint or hunter. When I decided to build...

    Remington 700 vs Ruger M77

Of the two, I'd go for the Ruger. I prefer the Ruger's action over the Remington. The "built in" scope mounts, free scope rings, controlled feed bolt...all seem to be a better deal. I like the Ruger stock design,etc... guess I'm just a Ruger fan !!

    AR Scope Opinions

If you're looking for a dedicated target/varmint scope - for up to 600yds... SWFA.com has their "Super Sniper" SS 10x42mm Tactical scope (10x power) for $300.00 - great scope for the price. I've used one on a M1A for 6 years with great results. Shooting pal has the SS 16x42mm (16x power) -...

Do You Carry A Revolver Exclusively?

Yes, I carry Wheelguns exclusively (Usually Double-action)!! I like my revolvers' total reliability and versatility. I'm a big, fat guy so I have no trouble carrying a Revolver (open or concealed). I prefer the "old" pinned & recessed 4" S&W N-frames in any caliber that starts in "4" or...

Just bought one of my dream rifles! Win Mod 70 Featherweight 6.5x55 Swede!!

Congrats on your find!! I have a M70 XTR Featherweight in 7x57 with the iron sights - absolutly love it!!! I also found a gun shop take off "like new" Winchester M70 Synthetic stock...so now I don't worry about dinging the walnut stock.

.22 Hornet prices: too good to be true?

I love the .22 Hornet...started out with a 14" barrel on my T/C Contender with a 4x Leupold Piston scope...loved it. After 2 boxes of commercial ammo, I spent the princely sum of $16.oo and bought a Lee Loader kit. I found I can load 50-100 rds in the evening while just "sittin' around".

    A look at two rifles.

IMHO - Neither of the 2 rifles would be SHTF/Utility weapons. They seem to be "specialized" guns - accurate, medium to long range, precision style rifles. I believe a Utility rifle should be able to handle many chore - self protection, home protection, area coverage, and food harvesting...

    Redhawk .45

Lucky derby - Welcome to the .45 colt Lovers Assoc. - and the wait will be worth it!! I have the .45colt Redhawks in both 5 1/2" and 7 1/2"(with rings) barrels and love them. Your choice of the 4" sounds good - the moon clip/.45acp modification is also very interesting - would give you an...

    .454 or 500 S&W Magnum

If the only handgun choice as a "defense" is either a .454 or a .500 - I'd go with the .500 S&W...throwing the heaviest hard cast lead slug I could find. However, I really wouldn't be thrilled with either one. The X-frame S&Ws (IMHO) are just too big /heavy/awkward to be totin' as a backup/carry...

Do Cold Steel Knives live up to the Hype?

I have two of the Cold Steel Recon Tantos in carbon V - they have held up very well over the years. They are built like tanks - have been used and abused - and still perform. IMO they are worth what I paid for them. They are NOT magical blades able to slice through everything with just a flick...

Tell me about the 22 Hornet......

The .22 Hornet is a fun round - accurate, quiet, no recoil, easy to reload, usually available in light easy to carry rifles...what more do you need? I have a 14" T/C Contender pistol with a 4x leupold scope - its a real tackdriver! I use it on varmints & small game - carry it in a shoulder...
