With the 30-06 I can hunt anything in North America. Of course some calibers are "better" in some ways than others. If I go after Deer or Black bear where I live, my Savage 219 in .30-30 is a excellent choice due to the terrain. When out for grouse and rabbits a .22lr rifle is my gun of choice...
My favorite rifle that I own is a .54 half stock Hawken that a friend of mine made.
The stock came off a tree that was hit by lightning. 60 grains FF .15 patch .530 round ball for target work and a double load for big game.
My Small game rifle is a .38 caliber percussion long rifle made in 1950...
.32 is a great caliber for small game. Just be sure to have a good supply of ramrods as anything smaller than a .36 caliber is pretty thin and prone to breaking. Andy
If you can find a Winchester 67a or a 69a, these are excellent rifles that should not break the bank when you are at a show or shop. The Remington 521 is also a outstanding shooter for not too much money. Good luck in your search, Andy

The action on this gun is what's known as a "Back action Lock" these were very popular from the mid 1850's onwards. That being said Dixie gun works imported guns with this style lock up until the 1970's.
