All good comments. Thanks. Soon as the words left my mouth, I regretted the comment I made about my next door neighbor's house, but was happy that I did not specify which next door neighbor I was referring to. Really stupid to start with, though. I also hadn't given enough thought to the...
I'm in the process of moving to a new state. As if it's not bad enough having strangers rummaging through your stuff, one mover asked me, after seeing that I had three gun safes and a huge pile of ammo, if I had any hand grenades. I thought that was a strange question, and replied, "No, why?"...
If a state seceded, Federal Law Enforcement would not be allowed to operate within the borders. That's the whole idea. They'd be arrested by Sherriff Jim and Deputy Bill, then deported.
Chances are that in today's political environment, the Federal Government would not actually use force to prevent secession. This is not 1861. We have 24 hour news channels now, and it wouldn't look very good on TV for any administration in office to use US troops to attack a seceding state.
I would like to see the documentation to this effect. Was it a lease, or a sale? At any rate, let us assume that Joe Smith, in 1912, sold a thousand acres of land in Washington, DC to the Russian Government. Would the United States have allowed Vladimir Lenin to station troops there in 1925...
The same thing that prevents other countries from taking over Switzerland, i.e., "that every man be armed," and willing to defend what's theirs. What stopped the might of the Soviet Union from enslaving Afghanistan? Essentially, it was the unwillingness of the Afghani people to be enslaved...
DMF, do you never tire from losing this argument? LOL. Anyone who wishes may study the history of the Civil War and discover that the Union, after a legal secession by the State of South Carolina, not only refused to evacuate their hostile forces from said sovereign and newly independent state...
Wow! I guess the police state is really here. I honestly had no idea. Random searches are legal now? I guess I thought that the airline thing was a completely unique case, and was willing to live with it so long as it didn't intrude into other aspects of my daily life. Scary stuff, folks...
Count me in. Secession was one of the many powers retained by the states when the Federal Government was formed. This is precisely why the history of our nation, prior to 1860, demonstrated that the Federal Government feared secession and, due to that fear, refrained from enacting legislation...
Pax, when I try to put myself in the shoes of a cop in this situation, I just cannot seem to make any sense out of the reflex to disarm a CCW license holder. It makes about as much sense as a cop, upon discovering that the driver of the car he just pulled over is a police officer in the next...
Griggs has it right. I've subscribed, off and on, to the New American for about 15 years now. Good stuff. The UN has always been a threat to our national sovereignty, and always will be. Those in the establishment circles have been working towards a one world government for a century.
This is The Real Hawkeye talking here, even though it says The R Hawkeye. I've been chomping at the bit to respond, but I am preparing to move to Florida, and I packed my computer yesterday, and I was unable to sign on, for some reason, with my regular name on someone else's computer, so I was...
