    Very casual pistol sale

Honest people get burned by shady people, and learn the unpleasant truth that not everyone has the same standards of decency.

    Camping advice

Or find out they carry bear spray. Either way, good times!

    Camping advice

This is some great advice, and practicing it has gone a long way toward helping my family and less gun friendly friends feel more comfortable around firearms.

    Shootout in Walmart parking lot.

I'm pretty sure my itty bitty LCP wouldn't look nearly as impressive as my full size Glock, if I had to present it in self defense.

    Sub Compact

I would suggest the Ruger LC9S, as well (if you want a 9mm). It is a very well made, striker fired pistol (which makes is a lot more enjoyable to shoot than the hammer fired LC9, from what I have read). It's simple and rounded, which would make for a good concealed weapon. I have decided...

What Percentage Of Those Licenced To Carry Actually Do Carry Regularly?

The bolded is completely untrue. Just because you don't understand statistics, doesn't mean the rest of the world who relies on them for quality control (among many other things) is in error.

    Green Mountain 10/22 barrel

I did this a few years ago, and like my gun much better now. Getting the stock barrel out took a bit of work, and you'll want to have some cardboard and a rubber mallet to get the new barrel seated (I did, anyway). I first had to cut the end of the stock off, just behind the barrel band...

CCW Holder Wrestled to the Ground at Walmart

You would be AMAZED at a lot of the comments made on the Facebook page "Coalition to stop gun violence", where they talk about this attack. In the news story I read, I saw a link to their page, felt a morbid fascination, and had to go check it out. Apparently anyone not agreeing with them...

A Round With 3,250 fps Muzzle Velocity, And Weighing 6,096 grains?

brickeyee, Not sure what you're trying to correct here. Weight is mass being acted on by gravity, and gravity is a force, if that's what you mean. What would you just use mass (slugs) for? Bullets are generally measured in grains or pounds, which is not mass, and so must be converted.

A Round With 3,250 fps Muzzle Velocity, And Weighing 6,096 grains?

Moxie, Sorry if it came off like I was trying to correct you. I wondered for a long time how the energy figures for a particular cartridge were calculated, so finally took the time to look it up. Just figured I'd pass the formula along.

A Round With 3,250 fps Muzzle Velocity, And Weighing 6,096 grains?

I'm curious about what you're referring to here. We've been talking about kinetic energy, so unless you're swinging that Maglite pretty quick, I'm not sure where the 60,000 ft*lb of energy comes from. Are you referring to chemical energy?

A Round With 3,250 fps Muzzle Velocity, And Weighing 6,096 grains?

The formula used to calculate kinetic energy (the energy of an object in motion) is: K.E. = (1/2)(mass)(velocity^2). To end up with units of force, we have to convert mass to force. Mass has to be in lbm (pound mass), and velocity in feet per second. To convert grains to lbm, take...

    .44 and 10mm

Why? I did a lot of research before buying my Glock 20 in 10mm, and have enjoyed it for almost 10 years now. 10mm ammo is widely available - much more so than .22LR ammo is.

The most dangerous alteration you've seen?

Disagree. Don't be unsafe with your modifications, but I changed the barrel, recoil pad, trigger, and the recoil buffer pin on my 10/22, and it's galaxies better now.

    Hunting ear protection?

Nicely put. I was going to reply to the post about not needing hearing protection when hunting, but others have done a better job than I could have. This was an interesting and informative thread. The vitriolic and personal attacks from christcorp aside, I found the exchanges to be...

    Welcome Back, Mr. Nightcrawler

Correia and Nightcrawler, Great reading from both of you. I must say I'm excited to find a new author(s) to read -- there are only so many I enjoy, and I've certainly enjoyed reading your story in this thread. Looking forward to getting "Dead Six", and hopefully more to follow (please don't...

    Need for high capacity magazines!

Do you equate standing up for your beliefs with armed resistance to the US Government? There are indeed things I am willing to give my life for, but high capacity magazines is not one of them. Lest you reiterate your argument that anyone willing to discuss the meaning of the 2nd Amendment is...

    Need for high capacity magazines!

Wow. I just have to ask -- even if you had an eleventy million round magazine, how is you taking on the government for ANY reason going to turn out well?

Wow! This treatise was like a breath of fresh air. Thank you for a well-reasoned response.

    Need for high capacity magazines!

I actually am concerned about a particular scenario where my 15 round magazine would be comforting, and that's wild dogs. They tend to run in packs, and if you've got a number of moving targets intent on attacking me (and my young children, which is my real concern), having a large number of...
