    Deer hunting with 303

My first deer was a white tail in central Texas. I borrowed a friend's 303, and it was a 1 shot kill. Fortunately, we had gone to the range and scoped in the rifle at about the exact range the deer was taken. I just used some off-the-shelf Remington soft-point ammo, don't remember the load. :)

Justice officials in "Panic Mode" over failed Gun Program

Holder has taken the U. S. Justice Dept. so deep into the gutter, I'm surprised there have not been more resignations by asst. U. S. attorneys, out of disgust. Right now there is a cloud of shame hanging over that department. Disgraceful.

Best all-around rifle for hunting deer, pronghorn/antelope in west Texas?

+1 on the 25-06. Mine's a Steyr prohunter. The 25-06 is plenty to work on antelope and west Texas deer. Shoots flatter than most. My second choice would be the 6.5x55, another great round that shoots pretty flat and still reaches out.

I don't get it. Neither will you.

I've heard it said that liberals/progressives believe people are perfectable, and conservatives admit that people are not going to be perfect. The framers of the Constitution knew that people and governments are flawed, and therefore, as they set up the new government, they built in to the...

    completely lost interest

Candor and self-awareness are good things, not bad things. A gun for self-defense is an essential tool - essential should you ever need it. It's one of those things that you hope you never need. You've said you have kept one for self-defense. Not much else to say about that. But the other...

Do you still have your first firearm?

Yes, and every other gun I have acquired since. I'm old, and began gun ownership just a couple of years ago. I think before I buy. I expect to still own all my guns when I check out and leave all my guns to my kids. I missed the experience of shooting and owning guns when I was growing up.

    Car gun...What's the best location?

In my state (Texas) the gun can be anywhere in the car, as long as it is concealed. I drive a pickup with a split seat, so there's a ready-made soft crevice between the seats. Currently I put my handgun between the driver's seat and the rest of the bench seat. When I'm driving my wife's...

    ...thinking about selling my mosin...

"Poor man's rifle" is an off-putting statement. And it's not a useful observation. What does one's personal finance have to do with the qualities of any gun? It's more useful to make valid observations about a gun without resort to lazy short-hand thinking. I've read many times on various...
