Got my new/old CVA Mountain Rifle today (Pics Added)
Hello Gents,
I've been eagerly anticipating the arrival of what is to be my new roundball gun, an older MR I purchased off of GB. Well it showed up today and I'm very pleased thus far. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow, ran out of...
Went to an auction today and I'm pretty stoked about what I picked up. Listed as an "AMERICAN SPORTING RIFLE, 1840'S DOUBLE SET TRIGGER", it has a 37"x 1" .36 cal. barrel which appears to be marked "R. Patton". I think the stock is a tigered walnut, pewter forearm cap, and 2-piece brass...
I'm going to an auction tomorrow that has some older muzzleloaders, some of small caliber. Want an inexpensive light for quick inspections, any suggestions?
It looks like I'm going to get my grubby little paws on a .45cal Hopkins & Allen underhammer pistol by Numrich. I've searched through some of the known forums and get differing diameters recommended for this gun. Should I start out with .433, or would .440 be OK? What powder charges would you...
Well, I don't know what happened, but here's the scenario:
Had the gun apart for cleaning (1851 copy), put it back together, and the gun "jumps past" half cock. Normally you can here the C-O-L-T when cocking, although it was more like C-O-......L-T, now the first two clicks happen together...
This is my project gun, hoping to tune it to be a fine shooter. Have polished the sear surfaces, workin' on the front & rear sights to get her to point of aim.
1 pic of a target, note where P.O.A sticker is, in the process of adjusting the elevation.
I've considered doing this for a long time now, even for smokeless, maybe I'll finally bite the bullet. Are there any good links for the step by step process? Lead and molds will come first, can I get away with a propane stove, pot, & laddle to start? What's the bare minimum that I'd need to...
I'm looking to correct the all too common "shootin' high" issue with my smoke wagon. By doing a forum search I've found plenty of references for the "press in" type posts, but mine happens to be threaded. The High Standard Leech & Rigdon actually is made from Uberti parts, went to their site...
Just really getting started with the C&B thang, and after shooting my new/old gun today, I've come to the conclusion that I need a capping tool. My revolver is an 1851 style, which cappers would you recommend for #10 caps?
Hello Gents,
Today the postman delivered my new/old High Standard Leech & Rigdon 1851 and I can't seem to get the darn thing apart. I have removed the wedge and retaining screw, but the barrel doesn't want to slide off, it's one tight bugger. I don't want to force anything, are there any...
I just wanted to confirm that if using fffg in lieu of ffg in my T/C 50 cal, decrease approximate load by 10 grs, say 60-90 grs. I purchased a can of Goex Express for my C&B and wanted to use the same flask for both. I have heard that folks get pretty good results with the "triple f" in their...
Would like to know, other than 5 shot/6 shot capacities, what else? Do the cylinders have the same powder capacity? What difference, if any, in grip frame? Shootability? Any side by side pics would be appreciated.
Thanks kind folks...
I'm in the process of acquiring a '51 Navy and looking into bullet options. I've seen ball by Hornady & Speer by the hundred, what other options/manufacturers are out there? Any conicals, if so, by whom?
Thanks Gents...
Hello Kind Folks,
I was curious about the possibility of tuning the single trigger in my T/C PA Hunter. Currently it's rather brisk with a little bit of creep. Is removal of the lock & trigger assembly a pain? Is stoning the proper surface and changing/lightening of the spring feasible...
Still being a novice at muzzle-loading, let alone "traditional", I have seen many references to using FFFG in lieu of FFG in a 50 cal long gun. Please share your knowledge on the advantages and disadvantages of each.
