They do make Colt D frame speedloaders but S&W K frame speedloaders will still work. The Colt D frame is larger than the J frame, and J frame holsters are too small. S&W K frame holsters will be too big. The proper holster will have to be one sized for the D frame
Safariland made an upside down holster for revolvers. Bianchi made a similiar one, the "9R", take a look at Clint Eastwood's late 1970's movie "The Gauntlet". He carries a 2 1/2 in Model 66 in that holster.
My 1986 669 had a half cock notch. The safety recall was in 1987 or 1988, they replaced some small parts but left the half cock notch. My 1990's era 6906 did not have a half cock notch. A gunsmith ground off the half cock notch on my 669. Didn't really need it
About 10-11 years ago I spoke to Craig Spegal on the phone about making his boot grips for the Det Special. I already had 2 pair of his grips for a 2 1/2 inch Mod 66. He told me that he stopped making boot grips for the Colt D frame because of the inconsistency of the grip sizes. I for one...
