    270 WSM Thoughts

I support the rifle with my left fist closed off of my knuckles. This is only due to an old crippling injury where I can't open that hand to shoot off of my fingers. Of course I started with the 10x canvas and now use the leather.

    270 WSM Thoughts

Laphroaig, What rifle are you shooting in a match? It looks as if your wearing a leather match coat? Are you supporting the rifle from your left fist like I do?

    .250 Savage, a long venerable history but ... ?

Early 250's had 1-14" twisted barrels. I would not want that! The 250-3000 is an obsolete cartridge that never caught on. Of course somebody's grandad shot a deer with one long ago.

    what woodchuck ammo-223?

I used to hunt chucks here in the North East. They are gone now! It's said that the coyotes that have come back have got them! I really miss that chuck hunting! Do you see any chucks where you are?

    Your first buck

The last words my late dad spoke to me when he was dying in his bed were: "Remember that first buck you shot hunting with me with your rifle?"

Accurate rifles that cost you little

My favorite hunting rifles are those that hit right on where I want the bullet with the first shot. With my centerfires a beauty is a mauser 30-06 done up fine by a smith up north with an octagon barrel. It has an outstanding walnut stock and quality bluing, C.R.F., and a M70 type three...

    Kimber 84 Hunter

Kimber rifles have become the SS hunting rifles I like best with a lifetime battery of old M70's and yes a 99F in ..358! I like Kimbers light weight, modern synthetic stocks, Stainless Steel, made in the USA, reliability and accuracy, I have their 8400's in 7mm and 270 WSM and 84M's in 243 and 308.

    Loose Winchester primers

The Winchester WLRM primers I have here measure under size at .2098" and fit loose in good primer pockets. These are the ones that are not plated! However it seems that the unplated WLR primers measure .210" I have not tried to seat the WLR primers yet. CCI "GM210M" primers measure .2105" and...

Snapped a few pics of my New Ruger Precision Rifle

I have always admired the Ruger company and shoot one of their early #1's along with a revolver. I even bought castings from their Pine Tree foundry and toured it along with another plant of theirs! However that 'new' gun is not attractive to me at all. They must have done market research and...

How reliable are internal parts on rifle that are cast?

As a purchasing manager for large manufacturing companies I was charged with buying castings as specified by our engineering staff. The tools and machines that we made were the best or optimum design to have the best performance while being profitable in the market place. Of these castings...

For a couple dollars more, you could have had a Python in 1975

I got a new Colt Python 6" 357 back in the 60's. I was working well and driving a new Porsche along with buying a place to hunt, ski and stay at then in Vermont. A buddy had bought a Ruger Blackhawk 44 magnum 6" and he was a very good shot. We both had been handloading since the mid 50's. I...

    Reading about hunting

This internet including forums like this are a giant step above a magazine article or a book! Here we can post and ask question and even show and tell what we do! The old way was just a topic some other person did, not us! I read these forums now and post what I do. In the nearest city...

    Reading about hunting

Daveboon, I don't agree that it's the writers. I say it's this internet and forums like this one who have made those magazines less interesting. You wrote; "Sorry to say, but I cant think of anyone who really writes like they used to. Not that there aren't good gun writers, but they are...
