    45 ACP dies

Saying you don't need a Lee FCD is right, and so is saying you don't need a bullet puller. The FCD is good for fixing mistakes, just like a bullet puller. Of course you don't need one, but it's a great tool to have. IMO, you can never have too many tools. If you put a bullet in crooked of have...

    powder choices for 1911 45acp

I also like WST, 231, AA#5,Unique but lately 6.6grs. of Auto Comp with a 230 fmj Montana Gold bullet has been out shooting them all. One one very cold windy day, it was much better than my old stand-by load of 231. Very uniform.

    45acp

walkalong, I think you are wrong about the Factory O.A.L. being 1.235 for 230 gr Golden Saber ammo, that's way too long for that bullet. Maybe things have changed, I haven't had any factory ammo in a while. But I sure would not load that bullet that long if I wanted reliable ammo.

    45acp

I also like XTP and the Golden Saber in my Springfield Mil-Spec. I think the Golden Saber bullets might work better at lower velocities than the XTP in the 230 gr. weight. Both feed good. O.A.L. is 1.230 or 1.234 for the XTP and 1.223 for the Golden Saber in my gun. I have seen some people say...

    44 special loads anyone?

I also have a 4 5/8 Ruger 44 special and mine does real good with 5.5 grs. WST or 6.3 grs. of 231 with a 240 SWC. Also 6grs. of Auto Comp with the same 240 SWC was giving me sub 1" groups from a rest. The same 6.3 grs. of 231 was also a winner with the 215 SWC. I like AA#5 and #7 with the 240...

    Lee Factory Crimp Die

I use my LFCD all the time using old brass for 45 acp. I still use a single stage press and always have a couple of rounds that won't fit my case gauge. It seems no matter how bad they are, the LFCD will iron out the problem to enable the round to fit. Maybe it's my mistakes that cause this to...

What's a good powder to use in .45 Colt and.45ACP?

I like WST, 231, AA#5 and have found Auto Comp to also be a good one for me. Of coarse Unique too. Anything with those burn rates should work with the right amount of trial and error as far as recipes goes. Just got to put in the time to try a bunch of different loads to find the ones your gun...

Remington Golden Saber .45 ACP: 230 gr. vs 185 gr?

I carry the 230 golden saber that I reload. You have to remember point of impact. The lighter, faster bullet is going to hit lower on the target than the 230 at normal speeds. Shot placement still matters more that anything else IMO.

    Winchester SilverTip 44 Special recipe

That is my carry bullet with my 44 Special Ruger. I load 9.9 grs. of AA#5 for around 1000 fps. It is the most accurate load I have found with that bullet at that speed. Auto Comp is showing some good results with a 215 SWC from Magnus at 900 fps. I haven't tried it with a JHP yet, but I am...

    Winchester AutoComp (296?)

Evan, your not missing anything from my point of view if you can get 231 where you live. I could not find any 231 or many other powders. But there was plenty of Auto Comp, so I'm just saying, it works great for me in 45 acp, 38 Special and 7 grs. of the stuff pushed a 240 gr. SWC just as good as...

    Clean burning powder for .45ACP

I've been using WST for my target 45 acp loads and Auto Comp for my self-defense loads. 4.5 grs. of WST and 6.6 grs. of Auto Comp with the 230 gr. fmj or jhp. Both shoot straight and burn clean. With lead, I would use WST.

    Winchester AutoComp (296?)

I have been using Auto Comp and am very pleased with it. I was not happy with the low end loads, but in 38 special, I use 4.9 grs with the 158gr. Hornady XTP for 865 f.p.s. and get very tight groups with my snub nose model 85 Tauras. In 45 acp, I use 6.6 grs. of Auto Comp with a Montana Gold 230...

    .30-30 for elk?

Anyone that thinks elk are bigger in Oregon than in N.Az. better do their homework before flapping their gums! Hate misinformation. If you think I'm wrong due the research. But please if you come here, leave your peashooters home.

    .30-30 for elk?

For tod1700, my point was that if you can't see the whole animal chances are that you are not offered the the perfect shot MOST of the time. Also, "Roosevelt and Tule Elk are substantially smaller than the American Elk" (boon&crockett) in N. Az. and N.M.. So please don't try your 30-30 on the...

    .30-30 for elk?

I have to chime in on this one and agree with everyone that said NO. It's irresponsible in my mind to use a 30-30 for elk when if your reason is you want to use a lever gun or any gun unless you were starving or couldn't get another bigger one. Then only if you acted like a bow hunter. Most of...

    .30-06 and Elk: 165 grain vs. 180?

The only reason I like the heavy bullets in my 30-06 is cause they are the most accurate in my rifle. I like to think that the heavy weights might buck the wind better, but most if not all the shots I've taken elk with have been 100 yards or less in thick cover. Load up different weights and see...

best semi auto rifle ever built?

Not only does the B.A.R. come in rounds like the 338, but in a few more too. No semi-auto I've ever fired game close to the accuracy of a B.A.R.. I'm sure you could make some others that accurate, but out of the box........

Ruger 50th anniv. flattop 357 - worth it or waste of good $$?

I got one of the 44 special Ruger flat tops and was shocked to see grind/tool marks on one spot on the cylinder. After everyone was saying how great the finnish was on theirs. But when I measured the cylinder gap and shot the gun, I didn't care much any more. I got mine to carry horse back and...

Ruger / Lipsey's .44 Special Blackhawk: Very Enjoyable SA Revolver!

Thanks Arch Angle, I just got that issue. I guess I was concerned about how much my Ruger could take for nothing. This write up on 44 Special loads for the Ruger was just what I was looking for. Some of those loads I would never have tried if it had not been published. I got some fatter grips...

    Using Unique powder

I've used Unique for years and loaded 6 gr. with a 230 gr. bullet for a government model that worked great. And it seems that if you are off a little in how much + or - in how the powder is thrown it doesn't matter to much. But with a powder that meters better and is cleaner burning, why not...
