    Colt Woodsman reassembly problem

I had a similar issue on a Beretta 92FS after it was returned from the factory. It would fire once, cycle, eject and load, but the hammer followed the slide down and it wouldn't shoot again. It turned out the sear spring was installed incorrectly and all I had to do was invert it. I realize...

    Best "Gun" Advice or Saying?

I think the gamut has been pretty well covered, but a few from my father that stand out: Make the first shot count. When referring to a confrontation: Never pick up a gun unless you plan on using it. When I would question the effectiveness of different hunting calibers/shot sizes/chokes...

Am I the only one who hates cleaning ARs?

Unless I know for a fact I am going out within the next few days (and the current day wasn't out in the rain/snow/damp) I clean everything back to pretty near new. It's not as meticulous as it sounds if you stay on top of it every trip. I hear people talk of over cleaning, but if I wear down...

CA Resident - Ordered 1000 rounds online and store "lost or didn't receive it"

I always try to use big box stores for that kind of thing for that exact reason. But even then they have their faults. I had a mosin shipped to a field and stream store and it took the guy half an hour to find it in the back room. He literally had to google one to know what it looked like...

Illinois to vote on Mag ban tomorrow, Wednesday, 3/7/18

Today's schedule has it listed under House Bills - second reading. Does that mean it actually will come to a vote or are they mulling it over? Because there are 29 other measures listed for second readings. And 33 listed under third reading. All of these have "Short debate" listed after them and...

Sometimes we just don't have good reasons

What the what? Damned lies and calumny! :D I love .45 Colt, but nothing puts a smile on my face like a .44 magnum. Although come to think of it, .45 Colt makes me smile too. I must ponder this revelation.

Just to start a conversation on ammo used

I do a combination of both. When things are on sale or some places have clearances or you find the rare deal at the gun shows, I take advantage. I guess I try to be cost-effective which is why I still haven't set up to load 12 gauge. I priced everything out and found it's cheaper to buy 100 rd...

Are hollow points really "deadlier" than FMJ?

Shot placement is first and foremost. If a hollow point mushrooms up, it will inevitably leave a bigger hole on the way out than coming in (if it makes it through). I personally wouldn't want to get hit with either, but some of those hollow point wound channels are pretty gnarly.

Guns can increase potential for gun related stuff

I personally hate the way stats are portrayed. For example, the "study" claims an increase of 50% and the less informed read that and think "Oh no! 50%! We have to do something!" when in all reality it could be something like it changes from .02% to .03%. Of course, saying you have a .03% chance...

Gun not functioning correctly AFTER factory visit??

Just to update in case anyone else ever has this issue- whoever put the gun back together after the refinish had put the sear spring in upside down. Swapped it over and it runs flawlessly.

Gun not functioning correctly AFTER factory visit??

Thanks guys, I started on it last night and you can already see where it is taking the finish off in some spots. It was just interesting because I would have thought a 9mm going off could generate the same/more force as me racking it with my hand. I didn't send the slide in because Beretta...

Gun not functioning correctly AFTER factory visit??

I sent the frame from my beretta 92fs inox back to the plant in Maryland to have it refinished because the paint was peeling off. I kept the slide and all of its contents as they didn't seem necessary. I received the frame back and while it is not the same color as when I bought it, it is a...

Win Model 70 or Remington Sendero

I can find everything but Federal match large magnum rifle primers. It has been out of stock for months on midway, and every time I got notification that it is back in stock it sold out before I could order some. (And I mean within hours of notification) Not sure what the deal is, but I can't...

Win Model 70 or Remington Sendero

I have a Sendero in 300 win mag and it is far and away my most favorite rifle I own. The heavy barrel is fantastic. The way I understood it, the heavier barrel doesn't vibrate as much during firing so there is less movement in follow up shots. I did replace the stock trigger with a Timney. It is...

    Looking for a 30 06

$1700 for a new bolt gun and glass? Man, sounds like Christmas! Honestly, as has been said many times over, you cannot go wrong with a high end Winchester model 70 or a Remington 700. Do you like synthetic/stainless or walnut and bluing? Here is Remington's current offerings in 30-06 for the...

60 Minutes story about Remington 700 triggers?

When I bought a 700 early last year, the first thing I did when I got it home was install a Timney. The gun was beyond the recall years but the safety on the Timney actually blocks the trigger, not the sear. Plus, it is just a better trigger all the way around. Tried my damnedest and couldn't...

72 hour wait question for Illinois

The 4473 form can be a good starting point for purchases within a shop, but if you pay for something in full and have it shipped to your local FFL you do not have to start the period once you fill out the form. I have bought several firearms online and had them shipped to my local Gander...

Savage Accutrigger DIY Trigger Job (Rimfire)

Haha yeah I did have extra. I dumped the rest of the contents as I didn't think I had use for a 100 extras. I did take it out yesterday and can report that the trigger was absolutely outstanding. Had no issues hitting a 2" gong target at roughly 100 yards.

72 hour wait question for Illinois

In Illinois the waiting period typically starts from the time you pay in full for the firearm. The actual wording of the law is somewhat vague but the Illinois State Police determined that it begins from the time the buyer and seller reach an agreement and suggest that the FFL remains consistent...

Savage Accutrigger DIY Trigger Job (Rimfire)

I recently bought a Savage Mark II BRJ and was looking at aftermarket triggers/trigger kits and saw the Apachee trigger kit for $66 on Amazon and $58 on eBay. I'm hoping my little anecdote here can be of use to others that are interested. I couldn't fathom why it costs so much for essentially...
