    First 1911

I got it for $725, the least expensive PX9152L I'd seen in months of looking. The lighter I got at lightersales.com, they do engraving :) I stole the idea from the comic book "Preacher," admittedly... btw, yay for the CMP! I'm hoping to order my Garand this fall, after I get a safe. First...

    First 1911

I picked up a loaded Springfield in Black Stainless off gunbroker. I've only put 90 rounds through it, but it is accurate and very comfortable to shoot. The only thing I'm looking to change is the two-piece FLGR. I'm going to replace that with an Ed Brown GI style plug soon. Hopefully it won't...

    S 397 passes 65-31!

The gun lock amendment does open up a can of worms, but it looks like the proposal to make .50BMG an NFA did not pass, and for that I am glad. Could have been worse, but let's not celebrate yet.

(MN) Gun teacher's lessons pay off in real life

When I lived in Minneapolis, we called it the Star & Sickle. But I regret leaving- they have CCW now and NJ don't :)

    Debating a combat veteran

I had a roommate who was a Marine in the 80s, he was anti-gun. He thought only trained military personnel could use them worth a damn. He claimed to be Double Expert but never wanted to go to the range because "he would get too competitive." We agreed to disagree.

You can check my backpack as soon as I see your warrant.

    Another stupid law

I live in NJ and if the smoking ban is as effective as the cellphone ban, you should all buy stock in Philip Morris if this passes.

    Concealing a 10 inch knife?

A bit pricy, but the Mad Dog Panther's "Dundee Rig" hides the big blade well. As mentioned, Mike Sastre's River City sheaths have a great reputation. I've carried a 10" Bowie when hiking, IWB, it wasn't uncomfortable. A shoulder rig by Kenny Rowe or Survival Sheath Systems would also do the...

Good Knife as a Letter Opener?

You can have one custom made and stay within that price range, depending on the maker. I have a springbok handled little knife by J.Neilson that I use for a letter opener, it was less than the Randall. My Randall is too big for opening letters :)

1911 Picture post for no reason at all :)

    What is Krav Maga?

I checked out a local KM class and liked the no-nonsense brutality - don't dance, survive. However I was concerned that many of the moves could never be practiced in a sparring situation because they are so nasty. We did some escapes from bear hugs/tackles (my nose is still sore!). It was also...

    Archery for dummies

I picked up a used Fred Bear kodiak recurve from 1952 for $100 at Sig Borstad's archery shop in Mt. Vernon, NJ. Best deal I ever had. I love the bow, it shoots well, and I got to test it out in the store :) Find a local shop, it should only take a few minutes on yahoo or google, you won't...

    Cold Steel Swords

I have a CS katana (the old 88K, the higher quality one) and would recommend it if you require a low price traiditonal-looking katana. Paul Chen also offers lower priced traditional looking ones. If looks don't matter, Himalayan Imports makes a cheap tough one, and Rob Criswell makes a kick-butt...

Longest blade to carry on trail??

I carry a Cadet, a 5" blade knife my Ron "Little Hen Knives" Leueschen, and a walking stick by Jon Loose... it's a fokos, has a tiny axe head and a blunt spike for hooking stuff and whatnot: http://jloose.com/siteimages/pheartfull.jpg Thankfully I haven't had to mess with any snakes, but it...
