    A Gun Under The Pillow

I toss and turn all night, so my Judge is in the nightstand with #4 shot, buckshot, and three 45 colts. In that order.

    Lee Classic Loader Question...

Jack does anyone know where this guy got this block he is pounding on? In the comments after the video, he says it is a piece of steel with a foam backing. Go to a salvage yard for the 1/4" steel plate, and glue on some garage door weather stripping if that's all you can find... should work.:)

Is a handgun enough for home defense?

IMO, the Taurus Judge with Winchester PXD-1 home defense loads is your answer. Mine is in my bedside table right now. My 12 gauge and other toys are in the safe. Here's why: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kIuI3heYMQ&feature=player_embedded

    HD Ammo in a Judge?

To answer the accuracy question, Winchester developed the S410PDX-1 with three bore-sized plated discs to "take the rifling". Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kIuI3heYMQ&feature=player_embedded Three .45 sized holes, and a whole bunch of bb hits, beats one hole any day, IMO.

    Federal Premium .410 Handgun Ammunition

Check out: http://www.federalpremium.com/products/details/buckshot.aspx?id=911 Someone interested would have to contact Federal for the answer to the original question for this thread. Or, buy some, cut one open and find out if the lead is dead soft or a handgun round hardness. Even then...

    Cylinder Overrun Problem

Jim, After studying the way the pawl works off the hammer, I could see why what the Kirst gunsmith was telling me to do would probably help. And, now I could see that the striking face of the bolt is beveled to slip-in if it drops a smidge soon. Sooo... in small steps I finally stoned .005...

    Cylinder Overrun Problem

Yes indeed. I'm thinking that making it look more original is cheaper. I cut the leades.... and cured 5 of the 6 stop positions from "overrunning". The cylinder is bored for 5 chambers, and the sixth position is narrower than would allow for another chamber. The stop holes are cut closer...

    Cylinder Overrun Problem

I just got off the phone with the gunsmith Jay from Kirst. He advises dialing the gun in for my style of cocking by increasing tension on the paul spring, checking that the bolt fits all notches properly, and as a last resort adjusting the drop time of the bolt by stoning tiny amounts of...

    Cylinder Overrun Problem

I'm going to try to attach a couple of pics to this post. The cylinder looks like all the other ones on the Kirst website, none with leades. I've downloaded lots of photos of 1858s, and not very many of the ones I can see have leades, either on the originals, or the new iterations. Some, but...

Where do primers go when you drop them?

I've never figured out the primer problem, but I really and truly do know, no kidding, what happens to the occasional sock that never makes it back to the sock drawer. Washing machines really do, no fooling, eat socks. Discovered this when a piece of activated carbon cloth froze the pump in our...

    Cylinder Overrun Problem

Hello Everyone, I have an 1858 Pietta New Army that I've converted to cartridge with the gated Kirst Konverter. It's a nice setup, but I find that the cylinder will sometimes overrun the locking bolt when the hammer is pulled back quickly. This will overrun enough to either make the primer pin...
