Pocket Carry - The 21 foot "test" everyone should take

I would think they're lots of variables the could make one better then the other. 2 things that give the revolver the advantage, for me, is I can more easily get a good firing grip without being noticed. - makes for a faster draw and better shot if I must fire. The second advantage just be that...

    Ccw @ ihop

If in the IHOP, of course I would have but in this situation, No! Just a couple of reasons for this: 1. Some said you don't take a pistol to a rifle fight, heck, you don't take a handgun to a gun fight if given the choice. It matters not what handgun you have. None are a match for a rifle...

    Threat Distance?

Owen Sparks wrote: An animal has to TOUCH you before it can harm you. === Also true. Does that mean I have to wait until I am touched by that grizzle or cougar to respond with deadly force? Bullets don't hurt you either, until they touch you.

    Threat Distance?

GEM wrote: Interesting, I don't how companies are not covered by the same parts of the TX law. Also, I don't recall many company shootings lately. Some places use off duty LEOs - common at restaurants. =========== True on both accounts but it does happen and the threat of deadly force is...

    Threat Distance?

It is definitely more complicated, even in Texas. There is also more latitude, in Texas, if it is night. The idea being that it is much harder to see if the perp has a weapon or not. About the only place a shooting won't be very carefully looked at would be in your home. Still to me it isn't...

How do you clean your BP rifle?

To the OP, As you can see, most people use water. I've been shooting BP for years. (1858 Rem for less than $100 & Thompson rifle for $150 long.) I've used nothing but hot water, soap and oil and never had any rust problems.

Been thinking about making my own blades

One possible source for steel I've read about is old circular saw blades, or any saw blade for that matter. Just cut the blade shape out, grind, re-temper and anneal.

    Complex ballistic formula?

I remember that program. It was slow on an old XT but not too bad, nothing like your VIC20 experience. In fact it was quite fast after translating to C and running the compiled version. As another poster said, the tables were for changing factors as velocity changed, not ballistic tables. There...

OAL for SWC vs. cone vs. RN for 9mm

There is nothing really magical a out OAL. Start with the suggested OAL and starting load. Load in small batches while doing load development. Adjust the OAL for functioning reliability, and possibly accuracy. Then start adjusting the charge. Some autoloaders are picky about length and remember...

fffg loads in a 50 cal.

As to small game, I wouldn't worry too much about destroying too much meat. That mostly comes from hydrostatic shock. BP velocities are too low. You can of course just do head shots or try barking the tree critters. One thing to consider is your gun's rifling twist. Many of today's guns are...

    personal opinions on iwb

While I normally carry a snubnose in a pocket holster I do sometimes carry a compact S&W 3rd gen pistol in an IWB holster. I find it very comfortable but position is important. Too far back or forward, or too low it can did in. Only reason I don't carry that way more often is that I have to wear...

    Marlin Model 60 Range Report.

I wonder if it has something with the chamber being a bit tight and the extractor being a bit iffy. I have a Ruger .22/45 that is extremely accurate but also has many failures to feed and/or eject.

ND- I am now 'that guy'

The one time something like this happened to me was about 20 years ago. I was plinking in the field with a .22 rev. I shot particularly bad that string and lost count. Hard to do with just 6 rounds but apparently possible. I was really discussed, raised the pistol at one of the targets to dry...

fffg loads in a 50 cal.

I've used fffg a lot more than ffg in my renegade. 50grs. with a round ball is a very nice low recoiling round. The rifle handles 100 grs with no problem but rarely load over 70. Have shot other bullets, like Hornady buffalo bullets best and would use them if hunting something like bear or...

Texas: Gun in vehicle at work question.

It is my understanding that unless it is a secured lot there is nothing the company can do to him legally. That isn't to say they couldn't find a reason to fire him. Do they search employees cars? If not, as long as he has it hidden and keeps his mouth shut then they should never find out about it.

Scout scope vs. iron sights - forest hunting

My deer rifle is an old Marlin Glenfield .30-30. I have a 4x scope on it. I have a peep sight on a Marlin 39. Love it but as I get older may have to go with a scope. Will hate to do away with the clean lines of the 39.

When and what age did you buy your first gun?

First rifle, around 1979 at age of 27. A Weatherby Vanguard in .270 Win. First gun bought was about age 22, a Mossburg 500 12 ga marketed under the Revelation name (Western Auto) First gun owned, given to me on my birthday while in 7th grade, Savage DL24. 20 ga shotgun under a .22 lr. First...

Huge confusion picking my first ccw handgun

Most of the advice you've gotten is good. Only you can choose what is right for you and don't expect to get it perfect the first time. I've been carrying for almost 15 years and have 2 carry guns. One is a S&W 6944 - a double stack 9mm compact. The other is a J frame size revolver with boot...

    Reduced loads in new data

All the explanations make sense. I do need to break out my chrono and check velocities. (Once temps drop out of triple digits that is)
