    Slicking up a SxS

You should be able to see the wear points, the ones outside the action. A careful application of 4x clover compound should smooth them up. However, and I say this without knowing the design of the action, some guns have a built in stiffness due to such things as cocking the hammers, cocking...

looking for a svelt 28 gauge

Maybe I misread? Svelte in a 28 ga would eliminate the large majority of the guns mentioned so far. Think 5 1/2 lbs. Then consider the choices.

A New Service is a great idea! They can still be had at a reasonable price.

    38-40 info needed

Let me add that 38-40, while a wonderful round to shoot, is a bit of a pain to reload. The other major problem is that most of the older guns, figure pre-1964, are rifled for lead bullets, and will not shoot jacketed rounds well. My Colt's will shoot heavy lead bullets into 4" circles at 25...

Need help with a SAA problem

Have you checked to see that the the chambers are in spec? I have seen some that were grossly oversized. This would account for some of the problem. Another problem could be excessive tolerence between the cylinder and the pin. Powder and debris getting in there tends to slow things down.

What kind of wood is Beretta using?....walnut?

First, the "X-Tra Wood" is just a decal (basically) over a wooden (very plain) stock. It is walnut underneath (at least the two I've seen were). The process is the same as that used to add commercial pattern camo to gunstocks (ie Realtree patterns). Second, the idea is to make the wood look...

Why so few 9mm wheelguns in production?

The two major problems, from a manufacturers aspect, are 1) headspace and 2) extraction. The varience in 9mm loads (and the actual brass cartridge) is rather large (remember that we are talking thousands of an inch). Since auto loads headspace on the front it is very difficult to insure that...

    28 gauge vs .410

.410 is an American cartridge, and was offered in fairly large numbers of guns 80-50 years ago with the cost being a big part of the draw. Ammo for these guns once upon a time was cheaper than that of the larger bores. 28ga has only become a common gauge since WWII. There are older guns, but...

    Counterfeting collectible firearms

There are a lot of fakes out there. I know of several people who built them, and it is one of the reasons I've lost some of my interest in guns over the years. Perhaps the most popular fakes I've seen are the 28ga Winchester model 12's, and upgraded Parker shotguns. I've seen dozens of both, and...

what does it cost to shoot skeet?

I figured $5/round inclusive (ammo and range fees). It's amazing how cheap it is. Especially compared to other's I done over the years.

Almost bought a SXS today, and NOT a 311!!!

That's a nice gun for the money. If you really can't stand to have one around, just post the particulars about who has it here and someone else will have to enjoy it, with thanks to you.

Trivia of the week: shotgun gauge

Enough that the outside diameter of some old (pre WWII) 12 ga guns is less than the ID of some of the guns made in the last 10 years.

Trivia of the week: shotgun gauge

Just as a note that is no longer true. Barrel dimensions have changed, especially with the use of steel shot and backboring.
