    22 LR Rounds for "Defense"

If you are in IL outside of Cook county and a few other municipalities you can carry outside of your room in a hotel/motel only with the permission of the management. You are a guest there, not a resident. In and around Chicago you can carry if you are a Gangster Disciple, Latin King, New Black...

    Walmart ARs

I have nothing against Walmart, I shop there all the time. But what happens if you have a problem? Will the teenager they send over to the gun counter from housewares be able to answer your questions? Will they send it back for warranty work? I get a lot of groceries and ammo at WM but durable...

    Hi Point pistols

I have a 995 carbine which has run flawlessly for over 1500 rounds. I may even give it a thorough cleaning one of these days. I also picked up a NIB JHP for $125 because it was so cheap and it also worked perfectly. The cost of the pistol was negated by all the expensive .45 I was putting...

    Base plate for S & W 22a Mag.

I sent my 22A in for warranty work and included a mag that had lost the pin to compress the spring, which they fixed. Contact S&W, it may be covered.

Has .380 ACP been relegated to "pocket pistols"?

I said I'd never get a .380 because of all the standard arguments put forth previously. I have a P-11 but always thought about getting something I could drop in my pocket during the summer. My LGS just had Taurus TCP 738s on sale for $185 so I figured what the heck. But a full size .380? You...

    Cor-Bon DPX

In my own informal testing with water jugs and four layers of denim, I found that DPX expands consistantly from my XD9 (4" barrel) but not from my Kel Tec P-11 (3.1"). I like Speer's GDHP 124 gr. +P Short Barrel for the KT. I currently load the Springfield with 147 gr. Gold Dots or Ranger T...

Where do you buy your bulk ammo?

I don't have a problem buying ammo at Walmart. It's one thing you can get there (with the exception of Tula and the occasional box of RWS) that you can count on being made in the USA! Last summer I bought a case of Blazer .22 from Dunn's Sporting Goods online for $159 shipped. A hair over $.03...

what guns should I buy that are prone to being banned

All we need is one more liberal judge on the Supreme court and things could change in a real hurry.

    ammunition to go

ATG has quick service, they carry a good selection of 50 rd. boxes of "LE only" HP's for a decent price and as an added bonus for IL residents you don't need to send in a copy of your FOID.

Speer Gold Dot Personal Protection Ammo

Speer has great customer service. When I had a problem with some of their 9mm GDHP, they had me send it back for testing and replaced it with more than enough extra thrown in to cover my shipping. If you do ship ammo back, make sure you take it to a UPS hub (not a storefront) and mark it ORM-D...

    H.R. 822 Carry Reciprocity Bill

I'll tell you how to find out about this bill: I'll write to my dear Senator Durbin and if he's opposed, it's good legislation.

    Wallmart JHP Ammo Question

Both rounds are OK from a full size handgun but may not expand from a compact. You get what you pay for, I keep a couple boxes of these around just in case.

Which is better S&W 22A or Ruger mark II

I have a 22A and I've put thousands of rounds through it. When it was a year or so old the receiver broke and I had to send it in. It took S&W a couple months to get it back to me. I needed a new barrel for my Kel Tec P-11, which is in the same price range and they had it back to me in less than...

    Speer 147 grain 23619

147's may not expand out of shorter barrels. I tested Gold Dot, Ranger T and WWB with denim/water jugs and did not get much expansion from My Kel Tec P-11 (3.1") but they performed consistantly from my Springfield XD9 (4"). I would guess that the heavier bullets don't reach the required velocity...

Kimber Custom II vs. Ruger SR1911

I've had a Custom II for over a year now with no problems. I put Nitesiters on mine and they work well, we'll see how they hold up long term. I did have to change the recoil spring around 12-1500 rounds. I love the accuracy of this gun but I think it's the 1911 platform more than the brand.

    kel tec p11

My P-11 has been reliable for a couple of years now, and when it started keyholing I had it back from KT in a couple of weeks with a new barrel. I don't find it to be a "fun" range gun and it really stings when the temps drop, but with practice it's accurate at close range.

    Are Kimbers quality guns?

I never would have considered a Kimber but happened to win a Custom II from a Friends of the NRA raffle. It has been an accurate and reliable piece for the last couple of years, and is my nightstand gun.

    Illinois is just awful

While you can't carry in IL, you can still "transport" a gun as long as it's unloaded and cased. The Il Supreme Court decided that the console of a vehicle is a case, so residents do not have to go around completely unarmed. While it takes a few seconds to get a pistol out and load it, like they...

Looking for new Duty Weapon hopefully a 1911

I have an XD9 and it's reliable, accurate and easy to field strip. Don't have any experience with the others.

Why do 22LR pistols have such low magazine capacity?

Pistol manufacturers are selling millions and millions of .22s with ten round mags. If the market shifts to higher capacity and sales suffer, you can bet they'll go with the market. Until then they have no reason to.
