the savage 24a i bought in the for sale section here on THR
is a tack driver in .22/410
and i had looked for one in respectable condition for many years...
you should be able to find one in the 300-400 dollar range
if you are not looking for show condition
and numrich arms has a fair...
maybe the best thing you could do
if ruger offered me this deal after that round count and modification(s)
on my gp series i'd be throwing a party for an incoming family member
however i am interested in knowing if they return to you the defected gp that you sent them as IMHO only you do...
i'm with walkalong on this when my close range vision was younger
i did not use glass on my short range guns
as for my handguns the ones i can find them for i use tru glow sights
they are still slightly blurry but lining up red and green works just fine
for these close range encounter guns
i went with the GP100 in 357 MAG with a 6" barrel full lug
there are pic's on site here somewhere (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=565321)
it has been nothing but flawless since new last spring
it has only about 250 rounds thru it and the trigger improved tenfold
since pulling...
back in the early '70's my dad and friends use to shoot BP

with out it being some type of course

"quote"/ One of the girls commented that I should stop talking before she went "PETA on my ass." \ "quote"
i have been in this position as well, however i had asked her how she knew the plants
she loved to kill and eat had no feelings as she felt the "hunted" animal did
she could not...
i voted for the 16 ga
i have a model 37 in 16 ga its a lovely shooter and great on the swing
the light weight allows for more recoil then would be perferable but the
gun just handles better then a heavy full frame 12
a ruger rst6 .22cal semi auto
it was my fathers second handgun he traded his colt single action
22/22mag with bone grips for it new back in 1974
i've shoot this more then he did i belive even when he was alive
he would let us sit with him and shoot all the shells we wanted to buy for...
i have avg to large hands
i have a gp100 .357 mag 6"brl fits great with hogue grips
as well i have a .45acp p-90 service auto
for a first handgun a dbl action revolver would in my opinion be a nice all
around for home/trail/hunting use 357 a little small for the bear issues
i like the p90...
the traditions pursuit LT, is a very nice shooting and its easy handling as well as fairly light weight
avg price here in stainless should be just under your price limit
which ever you choose
just research and keep in mind many are biased
myself i own Traditions, CVA,TC and RUGER
hi all

this is the first of two taken this year
was shoot on our farm (100acres) with a cva hunter bolt
with reddot scope with 245gr powerbelt and 150gm triple seven pellets
at approx 18 yds
the second i wasn't able to get pictures of it was a slightly smaller 4 point...
any of those weapons will handle the job nicely
price would depend upon condition as always
none seem to be to badly priced if in good working order
with out alot of outer damage as well
check them over real good then pick your favorite and enjoy
i am in central nys im willing to try and mentor
folks in small or large game hunting as well as fishing
you may pm me here i am 51 male and have hunted since a child
i would take my
shotgun
winchester ranger 120 12 ga
rifle
(this is tougher choice)
savage110 in 22-250 long range fast and has power to drop man or beast up to deer size
handgun
again tough choice
1st id guess the gp 100 38/357mag 6in barrel
2nd ruger rst6 .22 6in semiauto
i have a gp100 in SS with 6" full lug with williams firesights added (old age thing)
love this gun a little large for a ccw.
but i deal with that, its extra weight may help
keep the barrel down, if he is not a real experinced shooter
i am not biased on mfg i love all handguns
