    Your 1st knife

At the time I liked the Uncle Henry LB7 better. It was more rounded and a little thicker - and less expensive if I recall correctly. I own several iterations of the Buck 110 and Uncle Henry LB7 and LB8, plus other 110 copies including the Western 541. These days I prefer the Buck 110...

    Your 1st knife

My Grandfather gave me two knives when I was 7 - a small stockman and a Western hunting knife. Both were well used but before I got them and with them I learned how to sharpen and use knives. My Grandfather loved to hunt and fish but didn't care for field dressing which is why I suspect he...

What is the most recent knife you bought?

Well, it's sort of a knife.

Ruger Single Six in .32 H&R vs. Single Seven in .327 Fed?

A bit of that choice will depend on the bullet you intend to use. I don't recall what brand my friend shot but he shoots 125gr in his 32's and the design (crimp groove) keeps the OAL within spec of both the 327 and the 32 H&R. I've seen a few guys post using bullets in the 140 gr range with...

.327 Fed vs .30 Carbine revolver

The AE 100 JSP clocks just under 1500 fps in my 5.5" Single Seven. They expand in water and in meat at ranges I would shoot either. Haven't tried them in gel. About 0:40 into the video shows me shooting the AE 100gr JSP into water jugs.

Ruger Single Six in .32 H&R vs. Single Seven in .327 Fed?

Oh, and the cylinder is longer on the Single Seven which is just barely long enough to handle common 327 rounds. I would bet the shorter cylinder on the Single Six would not be long enough to handle most 327 loads. The OAL of the heavy for caliber loads won't all work in the Single Seven. The...

Ruger Single Six in .32 H&R vs. Single Seven in .327 Fed?

I have and like both. The Single Seven has a few advantages but I would not call them "major advantages." The 32 H&R Single Six doesn't give up enough that I would pass one up for a good price waiting for a Single Seven. The Six does fine on the silhouettes. There is data out there that can get...

Shot a 38-55 Saturday at a silhouette match

Great caliber. There is something just right about it. It is true that there is some variation between chambers and bore sizes. Three pards have 336 Cowboys in 38-55 and mine has the most generous chamber and my bore slugs at .3805". The Lee 250 as cast gave OK accuracy but I had Accurate...

    45-70 plinker rounds

I had good accuracy with 5477 but until I got up to Levergun Max loadings I'd get a lot of "powder zombies" speckling the bore that would inevitably find there way into the camber dimpling the brass on subsequent shots. I like 4759 and 4198 for Trapdoor - Levergun level loadings. Same good...

    32-40

Great cartridge in single shots and lever guns. Impressively accurate at long range too.

How about a .32 caliber club?

I don't know the details of the hunt but saw the "hero" picture. It was not my intent to advocate the use of 32 caliber handguns for big game and I regret that my comment derailed this thread. My mistake. Personally I can't imagine choosing a Single Seven to hunt for anything larger than a 35...

How about a .32 caliber club?

Gotta love the 32s. Accurate, fun, economical, excellent on small game - though I do know of two Deer and one Elk taken with Single Sevens and one of the Deer was take with a 32 H&R load... I talked myself out of the 32 H&R Single Six when it first came out and a few times afterward. Finally...

Bought an LCR 327 Federal yesterday

What loads shoot closest to the sights in the 327 LCR? In my 38/357 snubbies the heavier bullets tend to shoot closest to Point-of-Aim equals Point-of-Impacted. Heavier for caliber shoot higher, light bullets printing lower. My 327 Sp101 needs a taller front sight. The Federal 100 gr shoots...

.30 Carbine Blackhawk v. .327 Fed Mag Blackhawk

30 carbine was abundant and inexpensive way back when which I suspect is why Ruger chambered a Blackhawk in it. A friend of mine has one and it is a good shooter. I always thought the scale was wrong though, too big for too small of a cartridge. I sold my 357 Blackhawk once I got the 45 Colt BH...

    32 H&R Magnum -- a useful caliber, or obsolete?

The only thing that would make the 32 H&R and it's variants better in my world is if it was offered in more rifles. My Marlin 1894 in 32 H&R boosted the velocity impressively - 1800 fps. I wish Ruger made a 77/327. I was tempted by the 32 H&R when it came out but talked myself out of it. Did it...

Nem, er Dr., er AStone... ah, Sir. I understand and respect your decision though as you know I can't help throwing a few more cents at it. To keep it on topic I will compare the venerable Marlin 336 to the 223 Ruger American and add another wrinkle, the 300 Blackout Ranch Rifle. IF you didn't...

    Long-Range Shooting: Practice before gear...

Excellent report. I think I read about this competition on 30 cal gal's blog. Looks like a ton of fun and a real challenge. Thanks for sharing it with us.

    The 336 Club

Good article. For handloaders, especially those who use rifles in competitions, there won't be many, if any revelations in the article, as tuning their loads to their rifles and needs is common practice. Aesthetics is important. That is undeniable, all of my leverguns (22, 32-20, 30-30...
