    Medicare & Guns--Is this true??

"Do you have a gun in your House? Very good information even if you don't own a gun! When I had my gangrene gallbladder taken out and spent 10 days in the hospital for what should have been an overnight stay the insurance company kicked me out. I had home nurse visits for two weeks and was...

    Don't do this

I suspect I clean brass to much. I like it shiny inside and out. I even tumble loaded jacketed rounds to make them shiny (doesn't work with lead). Anyway, I didn't let the empty brass dry enough after soaking to get all the water out. Tumbled them and ended up with media packed in over the...

    Hard cast vs: fmj/plated

I like lead OK but since I don't have a .45 prefer plated in my 9s, .38s, .380s and .357. I really noticed a lot of smut from the wax all around my stainless .357 that I didn't notice with my blued guns but I'm sure is there. The following a batch of rounds with a jacketed bullet or two does...

Back to considering a cheap Heritage revolver.

I've been down the cheap road as well. Never again. Part of the pleasure of gun ownership is the pride and feel of a quality gun irrespective of how it shoots. Generally speaking, the warranty of a quality gun is worth the extra as well.

Test of Dillon Case Lube and Affects on Reliability

I use Dillon case lube but spray the cases before decaping the old primers, plus the cases are lightly sprayed lying down. I doubt any contact with the business end of a new primer. If you sprayed the anvil side of the new primer directly I would think most any lube would have the same effect.

    Primer interpretation

I see several post relating to over-pressure by looking at primers. What does this look like? I don't follow the rationale.

Ar-15 as handy as a shotgun?

This would be my choice from Kel-tec. Short, I shoot a long gun left-handed so ejection is a concern. Soft-nose or frangible ammo. I've been wanting one since they came out. Kind of pricey though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNoUt3aVrus

A very serious "no guns allowed" bank sign

Some carry rolls of coins into banks, copper, nickel and fake silver. Coupled with a steel pocket knife and it would need to be a metal detector from Ft Knox to discriminate from a gun. I don't see this as a spreading fad. Some anti-gun nut bank person.

    410 for defense?

A quality double .410 with appropriately short or shortened barrels would be quick handling and easy to use.

Maybe time to change grocery stores

There have been five robberies in a local chain grocery store in NC that stays open 24 hours, all well publicized in the paper. The incidents all happened late at night. Ha--Te--, the grocery store is considering placarding their stores as no CCW stores.

    Ok open carry

When I took my CCW course, and I've got to pony up another $80.00, more finger prints and forms the end of this year, open carry was legal as long as no-one complained. You can be had for something on the order of "terrorizing the public" just by having a firearm exposed. NC has some of the...

    Traveling to NC: reciprocity

Agree!! I live here. What a mess!! Recent changes allow carry in parks but give counties and municipalities the right to ban CCW. This county that comes to mind said OK in a county park but the city that resides in this county said no. In other words, you can be legal in a county owned park...

Would you trust a double barrel to save your life?

Why 20" and not 18? Is 20" the legal minimum in some states? Why improved cylinder and not open bore, straight cylinder, especially for HD?

avoiding ear damage with powerful rifles

Nothing wrong with taking acetaminophen (Tylenol) with a non-steroidal like Ibuprofen or Meloxicam. Their mechanism of action is different. Just be aware some OTCs combine both in the same tablet. Tylenol in excess of 4,000 mg a day can kill you. Most only recommend a max of 3,000 a day...

    .38sp to .380 like .45 to 9mm?

How much of this energy is given up in the first 8" after hitting you human target and how much of big powerful bullets go through the human wasting energy continues on down range to a tree as wasted energy or another human.

    .38sp to .380 like .45 to 9mm?

2,000 fps would definitely produce a larger wound cavity than the same bullet at triple digit speeds. But the OP was talking about handguns not rifles. The only handgun I know commonly available to citizens that get to the 2,000 fps category is the FN 57 and I took it that the OP wasn't...

    .38sp to .380 like .45 to 9mm?

The following is not gospel but from a gun magazine writer. Test with ballistic gel seem to indicate the magic number for tissue damage is 800 fps. Lower than that and all you get is what the size of the round does, obviously more if a HP and it expands. Over 800 and you start getting a...

    .380 (9mm KURZ)

Maybe if you throw it at the perp. When I was a paramedic, we had a drunk guy from a bar fight. Shot over his right eye. The bullet tracked under his scalp between bone and skin and exited out the back of his head. Really freaked everyone out till we got an X-Ray. The guy checked himself...
