    Savage 99 - 308 Win or 300 Sav

I have two in .300 Sav., an EG and a T, and I have an F in .358 Win.that used to be a .308. Yes, have JES bore it to .358 Win, or .338 Fed and you'll have a nice big bore to compliment your .300. Reloading for any of the 99s isn't any kind of a problem that I've experienced, but I can also...

    BLR in 308

Henry is now making a very BLRish looking lever rifle with a detachable mag. Like the BLR it comes in many chamberings. Pricier though.

Seeking some opinions for moose-capable Alaskan big game rifle.

I know a lady who gets her moose every year with a .243. The 30.06 is just fine. But don't cut yourself out of a chance to get another rifle :-) The .338 and .300 WM are very popular up here, especially where moose share space with brown bear... which is most places.

    1950's era scope?

I have several Savage 99s and an old Swede Mauser, and each wears a newer scope because they are clearer and more reliable than old glass. I understand the "keep the scope time period correct with the rifle" mindset, but if you are going to use your rifles for serious range time or for hunting...

Ruger American Predator vs Weatherby Vanguard

I have the Vanguard in a .270 Win. Older model, but deadly accurate. The Ruger American is a fine rifle too. I have had a 7mm.08, a .308 and my son has a .300 Blackout. All are great guns as well, and you will pay less. My advice is to purchase whatever balances and feels best in your hands...

    BLR Questions

358 Win is a breeze! You can make them from everyday .308 with just one pass of the sizing die.

    Should I sell my .270?

Say what? My skinny pre-teen son routinely shot my .270 without a flinch. Now he shoots a .308 as a teenager. Seriously, the .270 is not a recoil monster. Get a thicker butt pad and enjoy a very flat-shooting, accurate killing round.

You actually sat through 26 minutes of that?

Mauser vs Enfield...Which Military Surplus Rifle

Reloading for Mausers and Springfields is straightforward. Enfields you can reload for on a limited basis, but the chamber is purposely sloppier, as a battle rifle, and you will be dealing with more stretching. And if you get more than one Enfield it is not good to mix reloaded cartridges...

lets see some sporterized army surplus!

Sporterize the hell out of it. All you can do is improve it, but you still can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. The Mosin is a crude club of a weapon compared to a Springfield, a Krag, a Swede or an Enfield of any persuasion.

    Should I buy a savage 99m for $400?

Being a relatively recent (in the nearly century of 99s) example, I'd say screw "period correct" scope, and find one that is kind to your eyes but still looks good. Older Leupolds look good on 99s. I have 3; an EG, a T, and an F with scopes and they are each reasonably accurate, but will never...

Lever-Action Cartidge w/ Lots of Load Possibilities

More than that BLRs come in far more offerings in both long and short actions. For instance, I have one in .300 WM.

K31 or Lee Enfield Mk 1

Who the hell wants a rifle that has a mini beer keg and a hypodermic needle hoop hooked to the bolt? The Enfield is a majestic looking and very efficient firearm. Battle proven in two major wars... unlike the Swiss.

    Mosin Nagant Project

You must need a pillow on top of the comb to sight through that scope!

my idea for a sweet ruger american model.

I put irons on my American. I put a scope base ghost ring sight on the rear and a front sight from an Enfield No. 1 (required a little sand paper reaming) which I epoxied on. I can still fit a scope on medium Q/D rings. Best of both worlds, especially if my scope fails. The ghost ring is pretty...

Reliability and durability of "budget" bolt actions

I have a few Enfields, a Weatherby, a Swede, and a Savage 99 among other quality firearms. And yes I have a few budget rifles too, such as an Axis and an American. I see no problems with them having long term reliability. They are rough around the edges, for sure, but that doesn't affect...

    Old School Original Scout Rifle

Always entertaining to watch the scout gun guys go at it over a concept. Meanwhile most of the 3rd World is busy taking animals and their enemies with whatever they own, like old Enfields, Mosins and such.

A reason why we are losing

I do not agree that we are losing. If we cannot communicate with anti-gun folks, it is because we cannot reason with them. They are emotionally driven rather than logical.

Some old rifle any idea what it is ???

Post the whole picture on the 99 club thread.

The Ruger American desparately needs improvements

IF you leave your mags full of ammunition for extended periods of time.
